i am still learnin to beatmix, i have a bpm counter on my mixer, the other day when i was using it the bpm counter was going really weird. the song i was playing the bpm counter said it was around 102 bpm then all of a sudden it would jump up to 140 bpm and i could not figure out why it was doing it.
does anybody know? thanks |

bpm counters are not always accurate.... if u are using one that has a beat assist or tap button.... then... that'll give u a more accurate readout when ur not sure.... but personaly, dont rely on bpm counters when mixing..

Depending on drum patterns a BPM counter will fluctuate. There is only one 100% accurate BPM counter...YOUR BRAIN. Although no BPM counter is perfect, some are better than others, and some are worse...much worse.

Yes I second that, you should never rely on any Beat Counter except your ears. I have beat counters on my decks and I will only look at them to get a rough estimate on how close I am to the mix, the rest is done by ear.
D-J-X since you are still learning, I would completely ignore the counters, for beginners they are counter-productive (no pun intended) and can somewhat confuse and disturb your learning. Trust your ears over any gadget, once you get the knack of it you'll appreciate why? ROQ out. |

well, just focus on beatmixing first.... once u get it down..... u'll hardly find urself counting bpms.... its like.... once u get it down good.... u can just listen to 2 different songs and know whether they will go together or not....and not even have to know the bpms of either song.... it'll just come natural..
like.... slow song + slow song = mixable songs fast + fast = mixable songs fast + medium/slow or not so fast = songs by da chipmunks real fast + slow = creative mix/techno-slow-jam but u have to be able to just tell the difference between fast and slow songs..... u'll see what im talkin about once u get beatmixing down good... but dont get me wrong... every song is mixable... just try not to tweek the song to where it doesnt sound like the song...feel me??.. and for everyone else... well, what do yall think???... yeah or no??? |

This may help. I found it on MC-909.org. Its a bpm detection program and is by far the most accurate bpm counter i have ever seen. Oh and its FREEEEEEEEEEEEEE! But it wont help if you dont have a computer.

WOW. That is very accurate. I bpm my tracks manually using Propellerheads Reason with the metronome. I opened up those bpm'ed tracks and came out the same.
Thanks AdamRSX! |

I used Reason to check its accuracy also! You have to make sure that you select the right range, but as long as you have the range right you can't fool it |
