I opened my pro-scratch 2 since i dont have the money for them to fix it. I found all sony parts in it Eeker thinking it was american but the cd over time (1 year) stoped reading and i found nothing wrong with it but the damm thing worked after i closed it, if your old ps2 is having the same problem remove the screws holding the top on (only if you know elecronincs very well) I also noted that some wires turned black from the heat and that mite be why some of them die so fast...

Hi Steve,
First in reality almost everything american made, has parts made elsewhere. It's not cost effective to make your own audio pre-amp microprocessor for a cost of $20/pc. When you can buy a Sony one for $.03/pc.

Secondly, You are correct, if the PS2 is in a case it needs to be really well ventilated. I made a custom case to keep it cool, as with all electronics heat will destroy them.

Third, Most likely what you problem was was dust or dirt built up on the lens. When you took your PS2 apart the dirt got knocked loose, and walla-it now works.

BTW, it is pretty amazing how much electronics they stuff into that little CD player huh? I was impressed the first time I took one apart. I used to have a guide with pics here at one time.

If you need case ventilation suggestions hit me up.

Coheed glad to see you joined. As you can see the forum is kinda weird right now. Please be patient as we are not sure if most of the customer support guys are trying to rebuild the site and haven't been checking the boards for any possible issue as often as they used to. This is however the best way to get answers without having negative feedback from those who don't use the decks.
