Congrats!

I do not make, or sell, sound-proofing foam/insulation.

But these guys might help:
Try this site: http://www.soundprooffoam.com/

and here: http://www.soundprooffoam.com/soundproofing.html

This site too: http://www.record-producer.com/index.cfm?cid=42

Good luck!

Sweet, dude!

Electronic Musician did a story on room tuning a while back, maybe you can find it online.

Also, check http://www.theprojectstudiohandbook.com/directory.htm , it's tons and tons of resources.

Remember, post some pics when you get it going! Big Grin

I want to do mine as well, I would like to use the accoustic pyramids, but don't want to pay that type of money. When I figure out what I'm doing I will share my secrets.

In the old band shed, we use to use old carpets nailed up to the walls. The more layers, the better.
You'd be amazed what people throw out.. Smiler

Of course, you probably don't want someone's old rug hanging in your house.

Auralex makes a pack that sells for $99, it's 32 1' foam squares that also come with a mounting adhesive.

There's also the "Auralex DS-2 Pro Designer Kit", which is 24 1' panels and 8 bass traps. They make many other packs.

And, yes, jingles, the egg cartons work well. Matresses are also good.

hey guys...well the room is cleared out and I think Im gonna paint it, spruce it up a bit. Ive bought a workstation desk so far and now Im workin on the actual recording system. Im not sure if Im gonna go PC or Mac or maybe one of those recording workstation systems. I talked to a friend of mine whose and audio guy and hes helpin me pick the right spots to put the acoustic foam. He said the foam really isnt for sound proofing, its more for sound/acoustic control. So slowly but surely its comin along...Ill give you guys some more updates once I can give it!

Go PC. Cheaper, and .. well, it's cheaper. And doesn't support Steve Jobs.
These days, a PC has all the music programs (and more) that a Mac does.
Get a nice FireWire mixer (make sure your PC has a FireWire port), and you're set. Alesis has a couple of inexpensive ones, depending on how many inputs you want/need.

If you can afford it, go Mac, as it'll givbe you less headaches in general, plus the ability to run Mac OS X AND Windows. But, if not, don't go for a cheap-o PC, you'll be kicking yourself later.

If you can, go for something with dual cores, multiple HDs (or HD bays to add on later), SATA, as much RAM as you can possibly afford, and USB 2.0 and FireWire connections.

The Alesis mixers are pretty good. For software, I'd look into Cubase, Sonar (PC), Audition (PC), Digital Performer (Mac), Logic Pro/Express (Mac), or if you've got the money and want the "industry standard", ProTools LE. Also, check out Reason 3 and Live 5.

ProTools has incredible editing features, and is great if you're recording a band, but all the others are more composer friendly.

A stereo 2-track editor is a must, there are free ones out there, but they pale in comparison to SoundForge and it's Mac counterpart Peak.
