The real name is Tyler Herron. I personally don't like hiding behind screen names. What I have to say is what I will take responsibility for.

While your idea is interesting, I don't really see a practical application or purpose for it outside of trying to paint a wall or surface with color and some motion.

Granted, that is part of the purpose of lighting, but it also has to interact with the stage performance and performers and should typically be complimentary to what's going on with the stage.

Now, I like the gobo you chose, that's one of my favorites. The color changing is nice too, so I can't knock you for that. But all I see is you making a "sine wave" with it, which is nifty, but since I work with bands and performers, I see no useful application for that.

Jingle's "show" takes into consideration a stage area as well as an audience area. Lights are clearly charging the audience as well as the stage.

I think what is needed is a more defined set of guidelines.

1: The lighting should be for a stage, size to be determined, maybe 40 wide by 20 deep. 4-feet high. Risers and other stuff added at your discretion, based on band.

2: Audience is 2000 people, room is 80 feet wide and 240 feet deep, ceilings are 25 feet high. and stage back is 10 feet from the back wall.

3: Band is performng.

TOo tired to think of more.

wooo, i am finally getting some time to look at all this stuff, i am on the yearbook staff and we just got the 2007 yearbook submitted!!! so i have a little bit of time right now. i understand exactly where you are coming from chris, i work with a band as well and actually have no use for this either but we were just playing around and were learning the FX gen maybe? i can't remember but jingles was showing me some stuff and we put this together in like 1 min. maybe. I'll gladly make another one if i have time to work on it and if jingles is up for it!

I'll see if I have some good snaps from the Chicago concert I worked. That was a complicated stage and they set it up all that day. Of course, the venue provided the main stage. They used it the day before for Bill Cosby(got my picture taken with him!). Just seems a faily typical stage is going to be 40 feet wide and possible 20-30 feet deep. The more stuff you want on the stage, the deeper you tend to want it.

Moody Blues had two drum sets on risers.

Chicago had a a riser for drums and a whole ramp system in place for the performers, including a keyboardist up too. A few just used a flat stage, but to each their own.

I'd say a relatively straight-forward pop-rock set-up with a 5-piece band: Drummer, 2 guitars, bass and vocalist/guitar. And imagine them not being nailed in place(unlike the Moody Blues, who appeared to have been, as well as propped up with boards).

Should any rules be agreed upon?

Song? Style? Like-type lights in agreed upon positions?

I guess we should just wait and see.

Way to much for what my tiny lighting rig can do. Ah, the small budget of the working-class audio engineer!
