I use Univenture view packs. They keep CD's protected, and prevents scratching, as well as cleans the CD's every time they are inserted and removed from the sleeves.
I then keep all of my CD's in a carpeted ******* case that really protects my CD's. |

I've used those in the past(not for DJ work, I don't do DJ work), and I must say that overall, I don't like those type of protectors.
Why? They don't protect. Anything touching the surface of the disc means friction and potential for scratching. Your CD is not being cleaned each time they are inserted and removed, but rather dust is being ground into the sleeve, which will later accumulate and scratch your CD's. Just get some nice hard cases designed to carry CD's and then if you're pressed for space, then just buy slimline jewel cases(quality ones, not cheap ones), but LABEL them and keep them organized. I prefer things that use a center-hub holder. Personally, I keep my discs in their original cases. Why? Properly labelled in the first place. I am not wasting money on hard cases since I don't travel with any CD's outside of some test discs that I made that contain test tones, sweeps, white and pink noise at various reference levels, and some test music, nothing I can't make a few thousand of if I need to. If they get destroyed, I'm not out on the road for months at a time, so I can just go home after the gig(typically) and make another. Regardless, should you want to use what DJ Stevie Ray is talking about, you might want to get something similar that can hold 4 on a page and can fit in an over-sized binder. Above all else, KEEP THEM ORGANIZED. My method of sorting: Alphabetically, by group name and/or artist last name. So, obviously Aerosmith is going to be in the top section, while ZZTop is towards the end, and Weird Al is under "Y" for Yankovic. An issue you might want to consider is the fact that many discs these days are not putting a listing of songs on the silk-screened surface, so you'll want to have a listing somewhere to refer to. Another thing to consider is the dual disc format, which is DVD on one side and CD on the other. Thicker than a regular CD and DVD. Both sides are usable, so while those sleeves protect one side poorly, it does an even worse job on the other side. As far as ordering, that link had a toll-free number and is an online store, so you might be able to get those from that place. Also, any office supply store should have something like that, if not that, so that's something else to keep in mind. -- Chris Pickett, Studio42 916-601-7089 http://www.studio42.com Anti Spam Advocate: http://www.studio42.org |
