Eeker That ain't cool. You need to move down here to San Diego....we still have a couple spots to dig around in. I went to one of my usual shops .....took a different route and found another store. They carried mostly old 60's, 70,80's stuff. I found some good stuff at cheap prices.

San Diego's got PLENTY of places to score vinyl. But you've got to be patient and willing to look through bin after bin after bin to find treasure.

And don't forget about your local thrift stores, either. You'd be surprised what they have and the condition it's in.

Of course, if you're absolutely desperate to have something specific, head out to Blue Meanie records in El Cajon. They have almost everything. What they don't have, they can procure.

I TOLD MY FRIENDS ONE DAY THAT LED ZEPPELIN WOULD BE CONVERTED INTO ELEVATOR MUSIC, Roll Eyes AND THEY THREW ROCKS AT ME AND SAID I WAS A TRAITOR TO "ROCK". AND REPLYED WITH THE WORDS "THAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN THEY STOP PRESSING VINYL"! Wink "AND CAN YOU GUESS WHAT I HEARD IN THE ELEVATOR TODAY"? "AND SHE'S BUYING A STAIRWAY TO THE 6TH FLOOR"? Razzer

Muzac. They've converted everything to elevator music.

i am a club dj, and a mobile dj. needless to say that in the club, it is strictly cd. on the other hand, when i do gigs, you will see me with atleast two crates. personaly, i will never stop digging, sometimes i just grab a stack and buy them without looking. since i like to make beats, i can always sample records i cannot use otherwise. but now, most the record stores have disapeared and i have to travel 75 miles to hollywood to buy whats "hot".us vinyl djs are a dying breed. I've never prefered the sound of records. Just never sounded right to me. But, I'm not here to slam the format.

It's sort of too bad that you guys have to go digging like homeless people going after soda cans for booze money. A lot of great recordings were released on vinyl only, because that was the hot format at the time. Musicians didn't let the format get in the way of getting their stuff out there to the masses.

Personally, I'm making a tiny bit of money converting people's old records to CD. It's nice to see this is a format that so far has been able to stand up to time. Unlike tape, which has all sorts of other goofy issues.

I transfered some records earlier this year of recordings made of a now vanished Indian tribe(they are all dead now). This is stuff that can't be replaced. I take comfort in knowing that these will be going to a museum and are being used to help preserve what they can of that tribe.

Ever heard of recorded wire? I have. I got a wire over 80 years old I think. Sounds pretty decent.

I say keep digging. Let's get these old records into the hands of those who can appreciate them as intended. Period.

Otherwise, what you guys want to do? Save up and buy your own record lathe and make your own? That isn't as simple as you think it is. It can be, but to do it right isn't so simple as things change the further IN you go(or out, depends how you're recording, I've done some inside out home cut discs for transfers)
