Halloween is soon coming. What are some of the best songs you play at a Ghoulie Bash???
I'll list some of mine tomorrow. What I would like to do is actually set up some posts for different holidays, or occasions where theme music is needed. Lets try and start with this for now though. We can work on X-mas, and New Years next month or so. Then there's also St. Patricks day, Valentines day, so on, and so forth. Halloween is one of my favourite bashes to do though. I got some good ones for ya all. Tha Dogg D.J. Dogg |

I find that anything by the backstreet boys and Nsync tends to be a pretty spooky song for any occasion.

Well, I don't know if any DJ has ever tried it but, movie scores are just a goldmine for spooky or downright frightening music, but then, if it's a dance, it should only serve as intros, outros background for beats. I guess it really depend if you are a DJ who is there to answer to public request (Which I think most DJs are) or if you are a more edjy kind of DJ who try to drive people to discover new types of music (Which is of course very risky if you want to keep the interest of the public).
Anyway, back to the music : Horror scores : Remember theese names : Christopher Young, James Newton Howard, Eliot Goldenthal, John Debney, Goblin, John Carpenter. Most of the time, when theese guys do an Horror score, it's just, wow ! Special mention : FearDotCom by Nicholas Pike : Creepy as hell Mimic by Marco Beltrami : Really eerie in some places Donnie Darko by Michael Andrews : Dark but incredibly Beautiful Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks fire Walk with me and Arlington Road by Angelo Badamalenti (Not all the songs, only some of them) Hardware (Songs and score), by Simon Boswell. Good collection of songs, with the classic Order of Death by Public Image Ltd. The Cell by Howard Shore : Just incredible, I've got no more words for this underrated score. Dark Pounding tracks on scores : The last track by Cevin Key on the End of Days score (John Debney) The first track on the Serial Experiments : Lain soundtrack Cyberia Mix (The manga) Drum and Bass : Low Profile Darkness and Twisted Designz by Panacea Controlled Developments by Source Direct Forms and Function by Photek Anything by Technical Itch and friends (Compil) Arcon 2 Antek (Not commerically released, avalaible on this MP3 site you all know...) Hardcore Techno Manu le Malin and friends (Compil) Conteporary Music : Anything by Krzysztof Penderecki (Even the name is creepy !) Some Gyorgy Ligeti, Requiem and Lux aeterna come to mind Overall Creepyness : The For Carnation Queen of Siam by Lydia Lunch Godspeed you Black Emperor (For a Post-Apocalyptic mood) Spiritual Archives by Delerium The Place where the Black Stars Hangs by Lustmord (For Backgournd only ! Beleive me :-)) Diamanda Galas (Beware, this can be downright scary, maybe at the end of the evening, to make everybody run for the exit :-)) Well that's about it for now, there is a lot more, but these are ideas to begin with. Beware though, this stuff can be too dark, depressing, or weird for most peoples tastes, so you'll just have to be moderate, I guess. Anyway, it alls depends of the audience in the end. Sorry for the lenght thoug ! Luc Desjardins If I die witouth directing any movie, composed any song or published any picture, then my life would have been wasted ! |

X-TREME now that's what I was looking for. I use a lot of movie scores, and like you said you can only use it as mainly intro music. I have that stuff on when people are coming into the hall to set the mood. ANGELO BADALAMENTI one of my all time favs!!!! I know I said I would post mine today, however I'm just on my way out the door going to Niagara Falls for the weekend for my first anniversary. Married for one year now. We's gonna hit the casino, do dinner, and a few shows, so I'll post when I get back on Sunday, or Monday. In the mean time keep em coming. Wait till you see my list. It goes on, and on, and on. Some of it is off the wall kind of stuff.

Here's a few more:
Purple People Eater Time Warp Disco Inferno Ghostbusters Soul Man Bad Moon Rising Gleened right off the back of a Halloween mix CD I picked up for $3.00. Although I found out later that it wasn't the original artists, so I was bummed. Cool idea about movie scores. That's why this place rocks. You always learn something new. Oh, and congrats Dogg! Trust me, it gets easier as time goes on... |

Yeah, You can't play theme music all night, you got to play the regular stuff, however there are a lot of regular songs that relate to Halloween indiscretely too. I'm getting my list ready.
