Hey, I'm the guy who posted the previous topic so I suppose I'd be a pretty good person to define what I'm looking for!
My idea of Techno is an underground feel, hard or even funky repetative beat, loads of energy, interesting bass lines, simple break downs. I like artists like CJ Bolland, Green velvet, Underworld etc.
techno , is a form of dance music primarily consisting of one measure and half measure repeating loops, little or no melodic content, and a lack of builds and rolls like you find in house and trance. some techno artists would include surgeon, ben simms, marco carola, cari lekebusch, chris leibing, joel mull, justin berkovi, umek, aril brikha, gez varley, and exos. but really to understand the difference between techno and the the other similiar forms of dance music you must listen to alot of it, because most of the differences are purely stylistic diffrences and can not really be explained. techno IS NOT a general term refering to all styles of electronic dance music, the prodigy and chemical brothers ARE NOT techno. techno is a very specialised and fairly obscure genre of electronic music.
This guy is a techno god, while also does a lot of other electronic styles. But if you listen to the right songs, you can get an idea of techno.
I will agree the techno is a bunch of loops layering on top of eachother. But you will find builds and breaks. Techno is also a lot harder to dance to I think, it's not music that really gives energy, or pumps the place. It's more of a "grab me some XTC, and we'll take it from there" kind of music. ***cough***raves***cough*** This is because of the repetitive "out there" chorus these songs have.

mmhhh, I guess your terminoligy is not very good. A chorus is not a group of people that sing, it's a specific part of the song that is repeted, while there are verses (whether these have lyrics, that's another thing). And I'm pretty sure I know what trance is, and Paul is not trance.
Zombie Nation is trance, Hallucinogen is not.

are you serious? dude even dumb ravers know that paul okenfold spins trance. actually i am a techno producer, i have releases on thinner records in sweden. i have christian vogel's E-mail adress, want to email him and ask hom what paul okenfold plays? I'm pretty sure i know what techno is. paul okenfold is T R A N C E. and i know what a chorus is , i attended berklee school of music in boston. what are your credentials? did you go to a rave once and now you think you are a dance master? and hallucinogen IS trance, psy-trance.
whoa simex chill out a bit, but now as I have known, "techno" is widely misinterpreted!! When did you go to berklee?? I was there way back in 97/98 one one year and then i left, decided to go dj full time.

I've never heard zombie nation before so i can't comment. give me a specific song name and i will download it and tell you what i think it is. as for hallucinogen, hallucinogen is psy-trance also known as goa-trance. goa/psy-trance is the style of trance that is popular in isreal right now and began actually in india in the town of Goa. goa's differences from trance include a generaly fast beat around 150 BPM, dark minor scales, synths with very fast filter modulations, and time changes from 4/4 to 3/4. other goa/psy-trance artists include x-dream, man with no name, laughing buddha, and kox box. if you want examples of techno, listen to some of the artists i listed in my initial post.
tags, i went in 2000 for a year and left because i was learning audio production must faster on my own (and much cheaper).
