Grab the latest Promo Only "Tropical Latin" disc. Each disc has the song classification next to the song to help you get up to speed.

Is that from a music service. I'm already getting a music service of radio traxx. It doesn't touch on the salsa music though. Can you give me some titles as I wouldn't know what to play even if I had it. Don't get me wrong, I know good music when I hear it, however when someone wants something specific.... ya know whats I mean. Someone asked me for a waltz just a while back, I played em some Andre Rieu like I normally do, and to which people dance to, however this guy said it was the wrong timestep or something, Hell I don't waltz and I don't intend on it either. I like the music, but I ain't dancing to it. He wanted some 3/4 waltz or something. Asking the wrong guy here I felt like saying. These are the same people who never know the artist, or song they want either. Gotta love them ones. There's one at every dance. Can't you play something good???????? Yeah, Ray Charles,,,,,Hit the road Jack, and don't ya come back no more, no more no more no more,,,,,,,,,,

The most perfect example of a waltz is "Mr. Bojangles" by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. A good "slow" waltz is "Can I Have This Dance (For The Rest Of My Life)" by Anne Murray. A very popular waltz here in the Texas Panhandle is "Waltz Across Texas" by Earnst Tubb.

Addendum: It's hard for a gringo to get specific. If you lay something current from Promo Only on them and present it as "this is what I have" it will usually pacify them.

Dogg,
I had someone ask for salsa music for a party, so I went out to Best Buy and did some looking. The salsa cd that I ended up buying was Salsa Hits 2003 (about $10), but here's the music that was on it:

Puerto Rican Power - Cuando Faltas Tu
Tito Nieves - Como Llego A Tu Amor
Gilberto Santa Rosa - La Agarro Bajando
Victor Manuelle - Como Se Lo Explico Al Corazon
Sonora Carruseles - Micaela
Jerry Rivera - No Lo Entiendo
Frankie Negron - Por Tu Placer
Brenda K Starr - Por Ese Hombre
Raulin Rosendo - Derroche
La Fuga - Amiga Mia
Carlos Vega - Que Voy Hacer Contigo
Puerto Rican Power - Aguinaldo Pa' To' El Ano (Navidena)

Hope that helps,
Will

P.S. I can't remember which two songs I played off of it, but I remember a ton of people out dancing to it (so it must have been good - lol).

I am in the SF Bay Area and this is getting to be an important genre for me to know.. I am sadly lacking.

Salsa is a very complicated thing.. I can't even get good specific info on "salsa" web sites because salsa covers a HUGE swath of Latin music.
I had tried buying a few CD's and showing them to anyone requesting salsa, and invariably I get puzzled looks as they scan the disks - it seems everyone has their favorites.

It's like requesting the DJ to play some ROCK - You really wanted CCR, but they play GODSMACK.

I PROMISE a few "safe bets" in the weeks to come.
