i dont get it how to scratch with cds? is it the same as with vinyl? i cant imagine....
i use my technics MII 1200 turntabels for scratching...all i do is just scratch a beat or a sound and try to get a rythm in too it...or just start spinning....like to have some tips and methods from the pros ;-) DJ CELL DJ CELL |

lol... this is unrealistic but how to get sponsored? i think that is the dream of every dj...i mean skilz has a mixer that is named after him...really cool...but just for interest what do you have to do , to get sponsored ???

Welcome to the forum... If you want to know how to execute a scratch just post what it is that your trying to do and i will do the best i can to help you. I would be more then happy to go over every scratch with you guys. |

i'm with you as to how scratching with CD's work...or even is it does. Now, without tryin to advertise or anything, i know that Numark has a dual CD player out, the CDN-88, which has the "Digi-Scratch" option inculded, and i hear that it is pretty realistic. i haven't had a chance to get my hands on it yet, but i do hear it is pretty good. But as usual, nothin is as good as an actual 12" on a turntable. - DJ SWERVE |

Have you seen the DIGI PRO yet?? You can use any turntable, and hook it up to the Digi Pro and you can scratch your CD's with a Special Vinyl that comes with the unit. That will be more for you. |

I have a 2 x Pro-Scratch 1 and a QMX2-BPM Mixer in a coffin plus I purchased a demo video "Pro-scratch 1" watching you scratching was wicked and your CD " Digital scratch Traxx" I hope you can assist..Thank you DJ ET Australia |

Alright, im in a band, and we have a more Incubus, Deftones type of sound, and not so much a SOLO DJ artist, and i mean it seems easy but trying to encourporate scratching and mixes into songs is hard. NE suggestions?

What is it that your trying to accomplish? Scratching with the band during a song? Knowing the right time to scratch during the song? Mixing music while the band is playing? Let me know. |

Where can I gain a basic understanding and direction for scratching? I mean you mentioned that you will be happy to elaborate on different scratching techniques, but what would you suggest as a starting point? I've only been spinning for a little under a year w/ Pro Scratch 1's and to be honest I've never used the scratch effect. I spin and mix mostly house (where there is less demand if any for scratching), but I am very much interested in incorporating scratching in the occasional hip-hop that I play. Any advice on where to start or can you point me somewhere where I can get such info? Also, I've spoken w/ a local club DJ concerning the Pro Scratch 1's, and he said that he's tried them out and found the scratching abilities to be limited and would much rather prefer vinyl. I take this into account, and then I hear your demo on Digital Scratch Traxx. All I can say is "Wow". So far I've been really impressed w/ the Pro Scratch 1's, what do you think? Thanks. -shady DJ |

It took me about 5 minutes to get use to the Pro Scratch 1's when i tried it for the first time. If you know how to scratch on vinyl, then you wont have much of a problem with the PS1. The Real Time Scratching is all there. It was the first unit to come out into the market with that feature, so it's not exactly going to be the best scratch unit for the first time, but it opened a new door in the DJ technology as you can see today. Just keep this in mind " Our Technology is only getting better " and i promise you will notice a difference.
As far as Scratch Techniques... Your best bet is to practice with a Solid scratch sample like AHHHHHHHHHHH. Use that sample and pratice your baby scratches going back and forth, and using the fader time to time to create scratching cuts. Try to think of a scratch in your head, and then try to execute it in your hand. Using your fader ( Open, Close, Open, Close ) try to move the fader as you move your scratch hand, and then at the same time you will hear your Sample getting cut in segments. It should start sounding like this AHH HHH HHH. The real Key is knowing when to use the fader... when your scratching to a beat, your fader hand needs to be moving and keeping up with the same BPM's as the song... For EX: Scratch Sound----> AHH HHA AHH HHH AHH AH AHHHHHH BEATS OF SONG--> 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 ( Sorry for the mess here but it's not coming out on computer as well as i thought it would ) then with the scratch hand move your hand back and forth as you cut and you will be on your way figuring out scratching techniques of your own. Remember... You must but in a lot of practice time to learn how to scratch. once you start figuring it out then you'll understand the whole process on your own. Hope this was helpful infomation. |
