new to djing...doing some homework before i buy some digital turntable's and i'm interested in the CDI-500s.

i know some other digital turntables have this effect as a feature...just wanted to know if you can do a BREAK effect on these. i look at the specs/manual and didn't see anything about it.

any info would be greatly appreciated. thanx Smiler

The effect you would use is "Skid". That effect will give you the break effect you are looking for. You can adjust to a long to short skid/brake.

twice...i did, sorry about that, but thanx for a quick reply.

also got another question...

can't decide whether to get the AA CDI-500s or the ****** CFX-30s (but leaning towards CDIs)...

i know now that they equal each other on effects but now i comes down to amount of samples (+ time) and amount of cues...

the cfx can do 4 sample (8sec each) and 5 cues, while the cdi can do 4 samples or cues (but not both; sample=5sec)

to any established cdi-500 dj...do you use often use the sample? is 5sec enough time?

any advice would be great...i'm really serious about taking this up as a hobby; just want to do some homework before i shell out some money.

I use the samples allot, and 5 secs is plenty. Besides, the CDI is the only CD player I know of where you can program up to 4 sample banks to playback in sequence. Meaning you record your 4 samples, and can make the CDI's play them in whatever sequence you want on a continuous seemless loop.

^^thanx...looks like CDIs are the best choice then...

what about mixers....looking to use them as a bedroom dj/personal hobby.

what would you recommend for a beginner mixer (something that's decent that i will be able to grow into as i gain my skills. perhaps do some some little side gigs for friends later when i'm better.)

thinking about these brands: American Audio, GJemini, or Behirnger

A black QD-5 will be a dope mixer to match the CDI's. You will be able to grow into that thing too. Personally I like the features better than the popular pmc 05III. MY opinion Wink . Also you will love the customer service from American Audio if you have any problems. Cool

I would spend the extra $$ and go for the QD-5.
You said yourself, you're looking for gear to grow into. The QD-5 fits that bill.

No one ever says, "Man, I wish I would have gotten the cheaper mixer. The one I bought is too good!"

But I often hear (and have said myself), "I should have just spent the extra $$ and got what I wanted."

DJing is not a cheap hobby/profession. Quality gear makes all the difference.

You will actually save alot that way too. Make sure to see if it comes with the CDI 500 MP3 or the regular CDI 500's. Cool

Also keep your eyes open on eBay. I sold a QD5B on there last year for $90 just about brand new. So I know you can get them at a decent price. Just no warranty then.
