do you have to have a high torque turntables to perform a better scratch and is there a major difference in a 1.7 kgf to a 2.2 kgf? thank you.

you have to understqnd-when tables are rated at a certain torque rating, it is the starting torque, that is, the torque when you initially hit start and speeds up. When you are actually scratching the torque on the 1.7kg table will be more like 1.0kg and the torque on the 2.2kg table will be more like 1.6kg. As such, the table with 2.2kg will have much less drrrrrrrrrrrraaaagggg when doing fast scratching, and will lead to better overal sounding scratching. As well, the other thing to keep in mind is that the American Audio Power Torque 2.2 is built to a much higher standard than the 2500 is (I'm assuming that is the 2 tables we are talking about here), and will skip far less when doing heavy scratching. So yes, it does make a difference.

Also remember that most turntablist still swear by the grand old kings Tech-12's, and those only have 1.8g of starting torque. I have never heard Q-bert complain about the torque on the Tech 12's. I could gaurentee that 90% of people using a PowerDrive 2.2 or a Tech 12 can't notice the difference. Now I have used Tech's for years, but I recently purchased a Power Drive for my home studio, because I have been using American Audio CD players for years, and I must say that $ for $ American Audio builds probably the best bang for the buck.

Wait till you feel the 4.5. . . .it boasts 4.9kg of torque on startup and a constant torque of 4.5 kg. . . it's just sick.
