Freestyle,

It has nothing to do with people giving you a straight answeer. It has to do with what system, or set up will be best for you, and for your performance. What is your style of DJ'ing? What do you like to do more during your gigs? Do you like to do Trcks during a gig? Do you like to do quick mixes? Think about it !

hmmmm... like skilz said, its what you weant to do, but i would go with the pro scratch 2s... those babys look SWEET, and plus a computer might have an emergency, you never know.

I JUST HAD AN IDEA!!!!! Cool

Build a wooden kiosk that looks really cool, with rope lights on the top and black lights on the edges. have a computer in the kiosk with a mouse and keyboard. make a special page on your website just for a request list, i.e. people would fill in fields to make a request than mail it to a mailbox on your comp. also set both up w/ internet. then when your high up in the booth and you wanna start takin requests than just check your e-mail!!! that would be sweet! plus it would look good too. **for clubs only** plus do they already have this???

The Pro Scratch 2 isn't for everyone, if you aren't a turntablist or you don't have a clue as to how to scratch, you may want to check out the PSX or the PS1 before you spend the money. If you feel more comfortable doing parties from your pc or laptop, more power to you. Most people will judge you poorly cause they don't understand that aspect of dj'ing and they aren't computer literate. Just as the CD jocks before them, and the Cassette jocks before them. . . .
Dj'ing isn't about what's better for everone else in thier opinion, it's about finding your own personal style and comfort zone. Me I prefer to have 3 table top cd decks, and 1 or 2 turntables depending on the event, (some of those old tracks are vinyl only! and I refuse to copy them!!)
I'm not sure if you are planning to do mobile work or club work and if so you would have to make it clear to your clients that you use whatever format you choose. You may find your answer there also. . . .

djmf- i have to give you props for your unbridled enthusiasm to become a dj and for coming up with all these (sometimes wacky) ideas. keep it up!!

concerning the above idea, how long do you think it would take for someone to spill their drink on the keyboard or elsewhere and ruin your computer? i say under 5 min. a public computer terminal w/keyboard & mouse and a nightclub just don't mix. next time you are in the computer lab at school, count how many signs you see that say NO FOOD OR DRINK!! they are there for good reason.

that said, your idea could work with a touch sensitive screen system much like they have behind the bar, at the gas station, at airports, mcdonalds, virtually any restaurant, etc. by using a touch sensitive screen, you could abandon the "kiosk" altogether and mount the screen within a wall (just one possibility) and save valuable floor space in front of the booth. furthermore, in some locations, waitresses are even using portable touch pad screens that are the size of cell phones to put in customers orders and print out receipts. also consider this: with text messaging and wireless web, it is possible RIGHT NOW for a person on the dance floor to request a song via email using their cell phone. all you have to do is motivate them to do it by providing an easy email address, abbreviated song titles they could quickly type, etc. the sky is the limit. the point is, as technology advances, there are better and more efficient ways to accomplish your goals. think about using more recent technology and you might be on to something... What do clients think though? Either "Oh cool he's up to technology" or "Damn why did you pick the Computer one"???

BTW- If I burn all my music to CD's does it make me look chessy?? And no I do not steal MP3 I buy them.

It will be used for my club and mobile.
