FORWARDS AND CHOPS

Anyone have pointers on doing these scratches? I've listened to DJ's and watched various video examples, but I can't seem to get it right. I can play a sample, like "Aww Yea", over and over using a forward scratch. The problem is that I can't do it quickly. For instance, I couldn't get it to sound like " Aw, Aw, Aww Yea, Aww Yea". I'm finding it VERY hard to break the sample into pieces at a fast tempo.

Any suggestions on how to pick up this technique?

Try speeding up the forward stabs bit by bit.
its pretty much your fader hand moves when your record hand moves too. so I just move both hands at the same time.

it's a difficult scratch, but the answer to accomplish this scratch is so easy.. PRACTICE. Thats all you have to do. Nobody can say nothing to you to improve you over night, you just need to glue yourself to the turntable untill you get it.

I understand the practice part. Trust me, I do. I was wondering if anyone might have tips to help the scratch make a little more sense. Mine is completely jumbled. I can't seem to get it to sound good at all. I'll keep chugging away at it, though!

scratch the tip of the sound
have the needle at the tip of the aww
and just start off with slow forwards again and again, then start speeding them up bit by bit
so maybe start off with
awwwww,awwwww,awwwww,awwwww awwwww, awwwww yeeeaah
then go
aww, aww, aww, aww, aww, aww yeah
then go
a-a-a-a aww yeah
its just all in coordinating the hands. U'll pick it up from repetition. Just like doing chirps.

I'm knew to scratch too.
and I don't know a thing about scratching

One question:
when you scratch,
Step 1.
one hand on the platter and go(forward)" aww "
2nd hand of the fader (on)

Step 2. (at the same time)
one hand on the platter (pull backwards)
2nd hand of the fader (off)

Repeat steps 1 & 2
aww, aww, aww, aww, aww,

Is this right? Frowner Frowner

I'm practicing that way, but just can't get right?

any suggestions?

Thanks in advanced.

basically u're only playing the sound only when its going forward. once its done forward, u cut out while pulling it back to the start of the sound again. then when you're at the start of the sound, u open fader and let it go again.

try it slow and then speed it up once u get this going...
