Folks after reading recent posts about the PS2s scratching abilities and certain uneducated tests by members here I would like to give another spin on the heated debate.

I don't even own a PS2..yet! (Still waiting for shipment here in Australia and it's the 30th April) So far most of you already own and have been using them for a while. In leiu of this I have taken the time to read the manual and read the posts on this forum about the PS2. I already know the product backwards and am well aware of its capabilites and how to execute them. I have been DJ'ing for nearly 14 years and have used all sorts of audio formats from vinyl to MD, video tape etc etc in my time but I would have to say the PS2/CD technology would have to best to date.

My opinion is this....the PS2 is a CD player for the future DJ. Seasoned turntablists should approach the PS2 with an open mind and be prepared to operate it under 5 new simple rules.

RULE 1) No CD player will ever replace that 70s technology/wax feel..so hands off the disc! Accept the new platter in all its glory and get over the fact that vinyl is slowly being replaced.

RULE 2) Because of the "no-touch" theory be prepared to make use of modern flash/cue points in place of markings made on an LP

RULE 3) Get used to scratch modes and other cool effects vinyl cannot and will not produce.

RULE 4) Embrace this new technology because when you learn how to use it properly, like vinyl, it will ultimately make you look good...!!

RULE 5) If all else fails RTFM

"FALSE" Vinyl is not slowly being replaced, and i don't think it ever will. There are just alot of Vinyl DJ's that hate CD, and most of them are not open minded, which will keep there talent closed in a box because they are to afraid to open it.

RULE 2) Because of the "no-touch" theory be prepared to make use of modern flash/cue points in place of markings made on an LP

"TRUE" The second scratch funtion on the PS2 is what i call the AUTOMATIC CUE RETURN or better known as ( BEAT JUGGLE MODE ) which will go right back to your cue point that you personally set at a touch of your finger ( TOUCH SENSITIVE JOG WHEEL )

RULE 3) Get used to scratch modes and other cool effects vinyl cannot and will not produce.

"TRUE & FALSE" The turntable alone will not create this effects, but with an effects machine hooked up to it you can.

RULE 4) Embrace this new technology because when you learn how to use it properly, like vinyl, it will ultimately make you look good...!!

"TRUE" This goes with any unit, and depending on the unit. The more features it has, the more you can do as a DJ, and the better you will look once you mastered it.

RULE 5) If all else fails RTFM

"TRUE" No comment !

Hi Skilz,

Thanks for your feedback. I just want to rephrase rule 1), I agree vinyl is not totally being replaced and I stand corrected but there is one fact we should all consider;

CD/Scratch technology is here to stay and it can and will only get better and probably never be replaced just like vinyl.

DJ CADILLAC and any other "turntabilist DJ" I respect you and your abilites (I've seen your video and was totally blown away). I ask that if you ever get the opportunity to use a PS2 again, open your mind to the technology and take the time to learn how to use it correctly. I bet with your turntablism experience you could really make the PS2 fly. Peace!
