I was wondering if starting a turntable without the platter on wreck the motor? I took the platter off my new turntable (yep it came in early) and started it up and the spindle threw a fit and started vibrating, then I presed the electronic brake and it stopped rotating but it didn't stop vibrating. I put the platter back on and i stopped it and it stopped fine.

why would you do that in the first place? lol

Use the turntable for what it's made for...

And i don't believe that anything would be ruined by doing that, but i don't recommend it.

Was it Direct Drive? Or belt?

When I started it I heard a "cluck" noise and I thought there might of been something under the platter that was interfering with the spindle so that's why I took the platter off and started the motor to check. It's a direct drive.

Well I'm bringing it back tuesday and ordering a better one lol. Although I can't say the company name. It has 1.6 kg of torque, blue strobe indicator, and a straight arm. I'd buy a AA HTD 1.8 but I prefer straight arms.

Why str8? So the can make the rest of the TT like well you know, and sell the fact it has a straight arm. You don't need a str8 arm to scratch. Ever here of a Tech-12? Ever here of the DMC? No straight arms used.....

Ray.. Striaght Arms don't do anything, or make any difference. They are just for show.
