Ok, i finally made the move and got some ****** TT1650 Turntables, and ********* DX626 Mixer. The Tables came with ****** Groove Tool Cartriges and after reading around on the forums i got scared and realized that for what im trying to do (aggressive mixing and a little scratching) i need some new needles. So im looking at some shure needles cause ive heard these are good.

Im looking at these:

ht*p://www.needlz.com/cartridges/m44-7.asp
ht*p://www.needlz.com/cartridges/m44g.asp

My questions are:

1. am i making the right choice here? (if not please set me right)

2. if you look on those web pages and scroll down you'll see the priceing. This i dont understand. Do i need just a replacement needle (cause i already have the cartridges?) or do i need a whole new thing. And why are 4 needles cheaper than 1 if they're mounted on a card.

ps. if you cant tell from my setup, im not a big spender, so i dont want those banna needles because i cant A. afford them or B. afford to screw up my records.

thanx!

The 447's are great for scratching and live performance, however they are known to wear out records, You could try the Banana or the OM version called the Baktrak. . . both are very good cartridges, but as with anything, you need to be comfortable with what you are using. Check your local dealer and ask any turntablists around you. I fully back the banana/baktrak carts as I have seen SKILZ using them a million times, and I don't think he's even changed a stylus yet. . . over god only knows how many years.

There are two styles of cartridge, technically 3, concorde would have an intigrated headshell or mounting piece, and om style would require attaching the cart to a headshell

For starters you will need to buy the entire cartridge, after that you can purchase replacement styli as you wish.
