Bedroom DJ |
From hearing different bands and artists, the sound of scratching has grown on me, and I wanted to pick it up. I have been doing a bit of research on products, but would like the inside scoop. I DJ weekly at clubs, but not with any from of TTs. But I would like to use digital TTs as a hobby and to help a friend's band out (im already playing keyboard for them, but not all the tracks).
The products I've looked at are (for mixers) the Q-mx2bmp and the Q-d5. I like the Q-mx better. For the cds, I have looked at teh Pro-Scratch 1, and the PSX. The Pro-Scratch looks nice, and the PSX doesnt seem to have enough. ANything better? BTW- my price range is about a grand, I can go more, but not alot. Would like 2 TTs, and a mixer. Thanks, AJ |

Just wanted to add this, I will be helping out in a friend's band (as i said before). Any advice one can give to help out. Not sure if i should just stratch sound effects, or burned-onto-a-cd-2nd-guitar-parts.

You would probably want to check out the Pro-Scratch 2 or CDI-500. The platter is touch-sensative, and offers more accurate scratching.
However, as always, it's a good idea to try out the players before you buy them. |

For DJing in a band, which is something I might get into soon, you need a variety of sounds: vocal samples, guitar riffs, simple drumbeats, horns, sound effects. A lot of these you can find free on the the internet, or at record shops. Yes you can record your guitarist and scratch their part as well. A band DJ has to be very versatile. |

AJ, First welcome to the forum.... Second of all for under $1000 you can get 2 CDI-500's and a QD5B mixer. That setup would currently be the best scratch setup with a ton of effects. |

Hopefully this helps, For the amount of money you are putting out do you need an amp and speakers? Or are you plugging into the snake with everyone else? DJ equipment isn't low level input like musical instruments so the sound would be distorted (overdriven) and could cause problems in the amp. The second thing you could do is to keep the levels really low but then you will have a problem keeping the same volume levels as your bandmates. Keep in mind to think of the rig as an instrument (that is that application anyway)....As someone stated earlier, tryout a few different models and go with what best fits your needs and more importantly, your pocket! For a starter system I would recommend any of the ADJ scratching decks (TT model or Dual decks) but my only warning is to compare the units and what they do as well as how they feel to you. Think of it as buying a pair of shoes. they all have different purposes and looks. Just another $.02 BTW, HEY STEVIE!!! DJ Rage |
