Ive been trying all of the scratching stuff and Ive looked at websites to try to figure out the moves - I watched the ADJ product video where SKILZ is scratching on vinal at the very begining - I just can't get the moves down - is there anyone who teaches this stuff to newbies like me - there has to be something - practicing on my own just isn't working - PLEASE HELP OH - i don't use vinal - i use the PS1, AXIS-8 and hopefully (soon) the PS2

Scratching is like any other DJ'ing skill, you need to put in your time and practice. It's like beatmixing, you can't learn how to do it just by reading about it, you need to experience it first hand. Its a matter of using your primary sences -hearing, feel/touch and becoming familiar with those sences on your equipment.
You need to perservere in your practicing even if it sounds like crap. I strongly suggest you; 1) listen to other DJ's routines 2) compare with other DJ's 3) try it yourself. You then need to repeat that cycle over and over until it all falls into place. The key is to practice, practice and then when you are done....practice some more. Practice even when you don't feel like it, that opens you to experimentation. Practice every spare second you've got. Start small and with the basics, eg practice "chirps" until you can do it blindfolded, then move onto another trick and do the same - over and over again. Once you have the basics down, start to work on a rotine.
Don't assume it will happen overnight either. People like Skilz and Cadillac have put in years of trial and error to achieve good results. This is the ONLY formula to achieving the perfect scratching technique. Peace!

Thanks for the advice, I can do really simple stuff - like the baby scratches but i keep hearing about all these other methods - Crab - for example, and i want to find out how to do them - as ive said, ive looked at the websites but they arn't much help since they are mostly talking about scratching with vinyl records - is there any demonstrations of scratching tecniques on video that i can buy or anything like that? Again thanks for the help

you know, it's not exactly like that but it's pretty close... but you have to practice so much that you'll really start wondering if DJing is really your thing... I almost threw my mixer out the window one night after trying the same mix over and over with no luck.

And you were about to throw up Matpec... well maybe not???? You get my drift though. Clipuptags, its been a minute since I last posted but about to make a move from the Pittsburgh area to Hilton Head South Carolina. Job change. Do DJ's even exist on that island. If so, someone let me know. If anyone lives in that area and wants to holla, get at me.
