of course you can find alot of info on djing on the net. There is so much too it I consider it a lifestyle rather than a hobby. To get a good idea of what its about I suggest you look at some videos. And probobly the biggest dj name you are going to come across is dj*Qbert, so look for some videos with him in it. Also look into some dmc videos to get what a battle is. And the best place to get it is on ebay

Looks for books and videos on the subject. Then practice, and become as involved as you can in the dj scene. Visit record shops weekly, visit conventions, and learn from other djs. Don't settle for being the average dj, don't try to duplicate other djs. If they have a technique you like build off it or tweak it, turn it into something of your own.

Just do it. Nuthing better than getting ur first pair of decks and playing with them. You'll never learn if you don't try. Just get sum decks and push play. I did that 6 years ago and i still can't find the stop button

Interesting question. I don't think anyone is taught to DJ but maybe you are talking about mixing? Anyone can "DJ" by playing one song after another at a gig, but if you are talking about mixing which I assume you are, then that's another story. If you are talking about mixing/blending beats/music, the way I learned was I got some instructional videos which seem to help. I also hooked up with some local DJ's at a gig or when they were practicing and I would hook up a Y-jack to their mixer and another pair of headphones where I would listen and see exactly how they would "mix" or prepare for a blend/mix into the other song. And like what the other guys said, PRACTICE!!! Beat mixing aint exactly easy depending on what type of music your "mixing", but eventually you will get it. Big Grin It also helps if you know the fundamentals of music, i.e. chorus, breaks, beatkeeping/counting 4's/8's etc..

Two things are essential:

Learn how to beat match
Learn how to mix harmonically

And Mix to perfection! Wink

Man I dunno about you guys but my school offers "DJ'in 101" Smiler Yes practice makes perfect and hands on experience is essential. The first time I ran a 56 channel live sound console for a big show was terrifying...but now several shows later....piece of cake!
