Belt Drive turntables are really more for the beginers. Belt Driven turntables are good for learning how to Mix, and getting use to the 1s & 2s. There is no power behind the platter. And the Platter is not steady, so you can't really do any heavy scratching on there. Belt Driven Turntables are Operated by a Belt that spins the platter around and around. So if you try to scratch on it, it would be a mistake to stop the platter while it's on because then you can bust the belt out of it's motion, then you have to open up the platter and put the belt back in it's place. You don't have to worry about this with Direct Driven Turntables because it's all operated by a heavy dudy motor, which is great for mixing, scratching..ETC.
