So, awhile back i bought a set of 1's and 2's, dare i not mention the name (cough cough st*****), and so as soon as i got them out and started playing with them i noticed that they have really low tork, like i but my hand on the vinyl to stop it and the platter slows down just from the pressure of me stopping the record, anywho, is there anyway that maybe i can make the surface of the platter slicker so there is less friction to keep it from slowing down or should i just experiment with different slip-mats???

Thanks,
DJ Oz

Well here are 3 tricks I havce used over the years.......
1) an old 45 between the vinyl and slip mat
2) Wax paper between the platter and slip mat.
3) My personal favorite. You take the clear plastic sleeve from a piece of vinyl, and cut it into a circle the size of the slipmat, and put that between the platter and slip mat. It's like you lubricated the turntable with butter.

4) Or buy a better TT....lol Razzer

Some of mt older 12's and Albums came with the plastic. It's kind of like a celophane.

I've got a direct drive but yea it's still pretty low torque. I use the #2 and #3 tricks mentioned by Stevie. You can also try something called "Butter Rugs" or "Flying Carpets" do a search on them with google.

Butter rugs actually take skill to use they are so slippery, you have to learn how to make careful finger movements. Or you can use Magic Carpets which is like wax paper under a slipmat. Wink

- most singles include an acapella and an instrumental version of songs

- do a search on crab scratching.... im pretty sure theres a good explination of how its done.... cause if i was to explain it to u.... u'd be lost..... but just know that.... it takes a while getting used to.... i learnt how to crab scratch with my right hand a year ago.... and i just recently got it down with my left.... so it takes a while.....so.... good luck....and remember to keep practicing
