Question pro-scratch1 users: i'm trying to get the feel for this "jog dial", is there a specific point on the jog wheel of the ps1 where i should grab in order to have better control of my scratches etc.????Should my movements be quick and jerky or slow and gentle?I also didn't noticed ANY change when i activated the PITCH BUTTONS is there a delay in the signal processing?

i'm no scratch artist by any means, but the things i've tried seem to respond to a smoother fluid motion. the men to ask on this one are LKJ or SKILZ!!

did you just hit the pitch control buttons and expect a change in pitch? there is more to it, once you select your pitch percentage with the pitch control buttons, you have to manipulate the pitch slider to actually change the pitch. or you can use the sample pitch buttons (+ & -) combined with the hold button to change pitch.

Ehhh, it's hard for me to explain. I learned some PS1 tricks by watching battle videos of Q-Bert...lol. I wish you were here so that I can show you in person...

It was a huge challenge for me, but I was able to get a hang of PS1 scratching. Took me a good 8 months to figure out. I had to break away from thinking how to scratch using what I learned from vinyl. This is nothing like vinyl. CD scratching is a whole form of its own. And what a great challenge it was learning how to use it.

Here's a little demo...I'll make another soon.

the file is PS1SKRATCH

Some hints:

Use the ridges on the jog wheel.

Try using both hands on the jog wheel to create unique scratches.

Try scratching while in pause mode, and release the sound with the play button.

When you find a good part to scratch on, immediately hit the 'in' button and cue. It Saves your scratch spot.

Find your spot using your ears, and not by looking at the platter. Thats the skill involved when using the PS1.

Use the crossfade often, helps eliminate some of the 'DIGI' sound from the scratch effect.

Move the platter SLOWLY when in scratch mode while working the crossfade to get a transformer-like scratch.

Once you are comfortable scratching in pause mode, try the same thing when in play mode.

That's all I can tell you...Heeh! I sound like I work for the company lol...

I'm figuring out how to do 'drumming' on the jog wheel and reverse button drumming, plus using the sample buttons like a mini keyboard.

The PS1 is just loaded with tons of hidden things!

I also found the best way to do scratches with the PS1's is also in pause mode, because when your hand stops moving the cd continues. I also use the Trans, Bop, and Phase effects during scratching to make unique scratching effects.

SKILZ,
You should open your own School-n-Scratch, Like JB Says: You got Magic Fingers/Hands.

No, D.J. Stevie Ray...that was "LKJ's scratch" not mine...i'm not that good yet.Nice job LKJ!! So you did that scratch by incorporating the sampler----any special effects added???I haven't begun to even use the sampler section yet!!these ps1's have so many features...COMBINED with the Qmx2bpm mixer---got my hands full...... how did you do that LKJ???That scratch was very close to sounding analog. Are there any other demonstration video's on the ps1 system???I really want to master these "Digital Babies". Very impressive to look at too!!!Any suggestions on EQ settings in order to get the clearest soundbombing scratches on the ps1????Take care Later.

if you add extra bass to the scratch, using the bass knob on the mixer, you can also drown out some of the digi sound.

Oh dude, i went through hell learning how to scratch on it but i feel like i accomplished a great feat.

about the little demo ( i was just fooling around one night...hehe) I was scratching on play mode through almost the entire time. no sampler or fx were used. just a instrumental breakbeat i got on mp3.com and a homemade battle record. I don't have an ADJ mixer.

I like that one part in the middle of mp3 (at 1:02). and fading it in realtime using only the jog wheel.

Thanks for hearing it! Good luck scratching!

Still looking for more demo videos on the pro-scratch1 Qmxbpm system......have you guys seen any??Oh yeah, dosen't ADJ make a cd designed for use in the PS1 that contains only scratch samples???Is it worth the bother using...or should i just stick to creating my own scratches?

Here you go:

Digital Scratch Traxx

It contains 99 scratch samples from our very own DJ SKILZ. So I recommend if you want to hear some of his creations, and be like him, get it Smiler . It's only 18.74. Big Grin Wink
