i'm just curious as to how many of you actually prefer to use the fader hamser style when scratching.

I'm not sure, but I think I may be better at scratching when the hamster switch is on. It sometimes feels more natural to use the fader that way...especially when I do forwards. Am I a really rare case here?

NO your not... I use either Hamster or Regular. I force myself to learn both ways so that i have more control.

Kewl. Thanks for ther reply. By now, I'm sure you can do any kind of scratch either using Hamster or Regular.... But when you were first learning, did you find that there cetain types of scratches that lends itself to use hamster more than regular?

Well i started out Regular, but then down the road i found out that there is an extra click you can get when crabing in hamster mode. So then i tried to learn it in Hamster mode, but i was more comfortable in regular mode, so i tought myself how to get that extra click in regular mode, and that was not easy, but i know how to do it now. Nobody here will understand what i mean by the " EXTRA CLICK " unless you scratch in Hamster mode. So now i do all of my scratches Regular mode & knowing how to accomplish the scratches i want with the " EXTRA CLICK ".

I think a better way of 'splanin it is that a "normal" style fader flare/crab is actually more of a transform flare/crab, as it ends with the fader in the off position, while a hamster style flare/crab is more of a "traditional" flare/crab, as it ends with the fader open, providing the illusion of that extra click. While like Skilz said you can train yourself to end a normal style crab/flare with the fader open, personally I just use the hamster switch at warp speed, as it is directly below the fader on my mixer (the QD-5 also has this hamster switch placement). Also, even if you prefer scratching hamster style, try normal style for stabs and such, you may find they are easier.

It reverses the direction of the crossfader or linefader.

Ok I understand what you mean by the extra click b/c I have the qbert diy dvd and have been reteaching myself to go from regular to hamster style for about 2 weeks now. I started off on normal. My question to you is how long did it take for you adjust to hamster and actually sound good with this style?
