It's very common for clients to give me some requests for specific songs for specific dances and a few songs they would like to hear during the rest of the dance, but it's rare when someone gives me a list of songs they want to have played during or for the dinner music.

I have a few CD's of instrumental piano, jazz, etc. music that I use and they work great! Oddly enough I've had some very nice compliments on my dinner music selections. I usually charge very little for dinner music since during that time I'm not running lights, switching CD's or doing the other regular busy stuff I do during the actual dance. So it seems strange to me when I have "requests" for songs to be played for the dinner music.

Have you ever been given a list of songs for the DINNER music?

I solicit what type of music is desired (classical, Rat Pack, romantic ballads, smooth jazz, etc.). Once in awhile they'll be more specific and indicate a particular artist, like Enya.

One disc I always take along is the John Tesh Movie Themes (the first one) - and will play it if not pre-empted; I'll usually get asked by a few people what it is. It's a great dinner disc for most traditional receptions.

Thanks for mentioning this John Tesh music. Never heard it before. I just checked some of it out and and think I will be picking some of his stuff up at the store. Good dinner music. THANX. Some other good stuff is by GEORGIO MORODER. He does quite a few good movie scores. His are the original music though.

I use "the background essentials" from promo only and they work real nice. 2 cd set, more than enough "dinner music". I do however have a wedding this coming weekend that mentioned some particular jazz musicians that I unfortunately don't have. Haven't decided if im going to pick some songs up by them, I'm all about making the customer happy, but buying cd just for dinner music? Eeker

I usually play a nice jazz or old (nat king cole/Etta james) type jazz as dinner starts, then build up to some rat pack stuff. Then bring it into some Motown (My Girl, But, It's Alright.) I keep bringing the tempo up a little to get people out of dinner mode and tapping their feet getting ready to dance.
