I have a Fog Hog that I have been using for Halloween for the past 10 years. It has worked great up until the other night. It started out fogging perfect, then the output began to decrease significantly. I have tried cleaning via methods found on various websites (distilled water, water/vinegar mix) and the output continues to get worse. I took it apart and inspected the lines - there are no visible clogs. When I run the pump without the brass line hooked to it - fog fluid only drips out (1 drop every 4-5 seconds). I also noticed that the pump is getting hot. I am pretty sure that the pump is on its way out and that I need to replace it. However, I called ADJ this morning and was told that the pump is no longer available and they couldn't give me any advice about where to find one.
Does anyone on here have any ideas about where I could find the correct pump for this machine? I really like the Fog Hog and want to continue to use it. Thanks a lot! -Charlie |

My suggestion is to simply get a new fog machine. It's probably going to be less hassle to deal with. Since you only use it for Halloween, I'd just get ADJ's least expensive model.
Trust me, I've been dealing with old gear for years. Support for such items can be a hassle at times. However, my woes are with electronics such as keytboards, outboard and consoles. In some cases it is beneficial to repair, other times to replace. Lighting isn't as "exclusive" as something used to sculpt sound. My suggestion: replace. -- Chris Pickett, Studio42 916-601-7089 http://www.studio42.com Anti Spam Advocate: http://www.studio42.org |

I agree...no use beating yourself up, I use fog but not that often anymore. I had a friend who got sued because the floor was damp from the fog he was laying down, and someone slipped.. anyway as cheap as fog machines are (I don't know what area your usuing it on) but even the medium size fog machines work just as good. I basically uise mine for Halloween. In my contract I ask the customers if they want fog or not, if they say yes I tell them I am not responsible for anything that may happen, and I also explain that fog machines have been known to set of fire alarms, which I know for a fact that a DJ friend of mine had to pay the fire department for setting off a flase alarm, since then he has made the YES/NO for a fog machine in his contract..

I have 3 fog machines. I used one once, and it was stinky, so I sent it back to ADJ for a replacement. The replacement has never been opened. I received my first fog machine as part of the ADJ Dynamic Party Pack. It has never been used. My Fog Stom 700 that I do use(same as the stinky one) was purchased as a short-term stand-in for the stinky Fog Storm 700. It has only been used a handful of times.
I'm getting a hazer made by a competitor. I can't stand oil-based products, so I had to go elsewhere. Heck, even party supply places sell the small ADJ foggers for parties. I bet this would run less than $30. Not bad. Now, I worked a show where at the end they flooded the hall with fog. No fire alarms were st off, and by law, they could not be disabled. The fog was so think you could not see your hand in front of your face. I would suspect that modern fire/smoke detectors can tell the difference between fog/haze and the real smoke. When working a play at a local college, they had to disable the smoke detectors. I won't mention the school to protect them. Let's just also say that smoking was a part of the stage activity as well. -- Chris Pickett, Studio42 916-601-7089 http://www.studio42.com Anti Spam Advocate: http://www.studio42.org |
