What do YOU do when a guest wants to "go out to the car" and bring in his personal CD's?I try not to show it but this REALLY irritates me.

Same here, Company wise, I dont mind, but personally I decline and make up an excuse saying it could mess up the CD player.. they buy it99% of the time, I also don't trust people when they say "yeah its edited" cause I really don't have time to listen to the entire song to ee if it's edited or not.

I never had it happen, but I don't think I would play it. God forbid it got stuck, or had some grease, smudge or something. All my own CD's are clean, they only go in my decks.

Another good 'stopper', "Is it a burn? Oh, it is? These decks need a special format..." Most people can't "burn" right anyway.

I either use the "burn" line above, or I just usually say that I can't because my music library has been approved by the client and I was told not play other peoples cds....or something to that effect.

i would probably use an excuse except if it is the host or the guest of honor of the party who is giving me the cd (also, in some cases this might be needed for a candlelight or something of the sort)

This happens to me a lot. Not only do i use CD's to DJ with, I'm also my highschools lunch activities commissioner, so i get DJ's to come out at lunch, or I use our schools DJ system at lunch. People always come to me with CD's to hear a certain song, but I tell them "hey, I didnt get it earlier, so no. If you want to sign-up to do music, I'll pencil you in". Most of the time they cuss me out, or just throw a fit. I don't care because they can go get a CD player at home and listen to it.

I guess I am on the other side of the aisle when it comes to this.

I think I can spot a smudge or half-eaten tootsie roll on a cd, however a burned CD probably won't get past me.

My response might be something like this: "If it's going to keep the party rolling, drop it off, and I'll check it when I have time. No guarantees, though, OK dude?" Then I'd remind him that I have too much going on to keep an eagle-eye on his cd's...

Diplomatically non-committal, no?

I have a hard fast rule- I never play others stuff at school related dances. But at other events I will only after it is okayed by the people writing the check.

I tell them I cannot use the disc, because I cannot be liable for someone elses property. Then I ask them what song it was they wanted. Chances are I probably have it.
