I know there was a post some time ago listing different games and such that could be done at parties however I can't seem to find them on the site here.
I normally play what we call the noodle game which is basically a musical chairs game but using a pool float that the people pass from one another only using their legs. When I stop the music the person with the float is out, or the person that was doing the passing. We used to use balloons however some people found it funny to pop the balloons quite a bit which meant I had to have a stock pile of blown up ones ready to use. If you ran out the game would have been over, so we figured the pool floats were a better idea. I normally play 3 songs during this event and if there are a lot of people participating we use two floats. It always goes over really good however we are starting to get a lot of repeat customers and I feel I need to change things up a bit so as to not get repedative.
Anyone got any ideas for stuff to do keeping in mind the people at most of my gigs are in the age groups 20 to 80 years old.
We do other things for giveaways, like last night at a corporate Christmas party we asked for the first guy who could bring us a females lipstick. Well two guys came running up both at the same time. The way we decided who got the prize was whoever put the lipstick on their lips fist got the prize. Well only one of the guys was willing to do this so he got it. He almost looked appealing to me after he had it on, lol!!!
Anyhow, anyone gots any good ideas?????????????
I got a few more Christmas gigs coming up, along with New Years. I've done New years at the same club now for the past 5 or 6 years, so I really need some new stuff.
Please help me out here.

I was going to try a 'Name that Tune' type of game (got the idea from the cruise I went on).
Takes some prep work. Need to make up a bunch of sheets with numbers 1 thru 20 with lines next to it as the answer sheet (can be less, can be more). Then, just grab your favorite 20 songs, put them in an order, and make up the master answer sheet. I was going to use "TV Tunes" for my day-job's office Christmas party. I was going to give out one sheet per table, or group of five, etc.

I like that Noodle game, though! Kind of like Hot Potato, right?

You may want to check out start.prodj.com. They have some good game ideas there.

Hey Dogg,
No games with "Worm Insurance"???? Eeker Big Grin

This thread is a great ideal, and so it sicks around for a while, I think we will feature it, so everyone can post their suggestions, and get ideas. So everyone feel free to contribute with their games and post descriptions (intructions) on how to play, so that all of our members may use them.

Depending on the party I try some old standards with some of my own games thrown in.
Freeze Game - This one everyone should know, but you play some music and when you stop the music everyone must "freeze". Meaning they can't move at all. Sometimes I will try to trick people, by saying "Eveyone who is having a good time put your hands up" or near the end "Give yourselves a big hand for doing such a great job". Of course since the music isn't playing if they respond by moving you tell them you got them and they are out.
Coke & Pepsi - This one is a big Mitvah game. You split eveyone up into two lines about 15-20 ft. apart from each other. You name one side Coke, and one side Pepsi. When you call Coke everyone on the Pepsi side has to run across the floor to the people on the Coke side. The Coke people go to one knee, and the Pepsi people must sit on their knee. The last ones to finish are out. Of course when you say Pepsi, everyone must scramble back to the other side and the Pepsi people go to one knee, and the Coke people sit on their (the Pepsi's people) knee. I also throw in variations during the game and tell them when they hear Dr. Pepper. They must go to the center of the floor and sit back to back. And when I say Sprite everyone returns to their own side.
The Dead Bug Game - Very similar to the freeze game, but when the music stops everone must do their best dead bug impressions. I will also try to add to this at some point by telling them to act like their being sprayed with Raid. Or pretend they are fly's stuck on Fly paper and struggling to get free. You give out prizes during this game to the people who are performing the best.
Team Movie Trivia (I have my own little twist to this one) - This one is self explanitory. You split everyone up evenly into two teams. You have them line up into straight single file lines. You then ask them trivia questions from popular movies (of course try to keep the questions to movies that could be answered by the particular age group you are playing with.) When you ask the question only the person in the back of the line may answer. They must run up to you and give you the answer. They may however stop and ask for help from anyone on their team. Whoever answers correctly goes to the front of their teams line, and the person who doesn't get the answer right is eliminated. Once a team is completely eliminated, the members who remain on the winning team receive prizes.

The worm insurance was used at a stag and doe I did. It was only meant as another means for making money. If you didn't buy the worm insurance and your ticket for a door prize was called you would then have to eat a live worm or forfeit your door prize. Guarenteed usually everyone will purchase it. Damn I know I would.

There's another thing I do to give away a prize. It starts out as a spot dance in which a couple will recieve a prize for being in a specific spot at the end, but then I also ask a question about the song played. I use the song "LOVE ME", it's an Elvis song only my version is done by NICHOLAS CAGE from the movie WILD AT HEART. Great version of it too. He sounds more like Elvis than Elvis does. Normally I start by asking if anyone knows the artist. Everyone yells out Elvis, WRONG!!!!!! then I proceed to give clues, such as
1. He is a famous movie star
2. He married a Kings daughter
3. He's related to Francis Ford Coppalla
4. Starred in CON AIR
and so on until someone gets it. Only drop 1 clue at a time and give them time to think about it, (20 seconds).

I'm thinking about trying a new game. Don't know how it will go over though. Think it would be best suited for a stag & doe. I tell the guys the first one to bring me as many womens underwear as he can in a 10 minute time period wins a nice prize. Could make for an interesting evening.
They don't call me tha DOGG for nothing!!!!!

Though not new, I still like to play "Thread the Needle" - get group of people holding hands in a circle and have them move a hula hoop around the circle a few times, stepping through it while hands locked together. Only requirement is to have the same number of people on each team; first team to get the hoop around 2 or 3 times wins. I usually will play some surf music during it. Everyone on the winning team gets a prize (Dollar Store stuff). Always seems to be a big hit.

Did a musical chair thing last week at a 50th birthday party - the guys were the chairs, while the women went around them. Old game, but everyone had a lot of fun with it, especially when one guy set his (pointed) party hat on his knee...

Well at the bashes I usually do it's a bottle of good wine, or gift certificates for a dinner for two somewhere. There have been other bigger prizes, but it's always donated from the people having the gig, I don't supply the prizes so it's whatever they have for me to give away. This is discussed with them well before the gig so they can either buy something, or sometimes businesses will donate stuff in which case they get away cheap.

Prizes - wind chimes, flower pots, vases, toothpicks, mouse traps, dog leash, wigs, picture frames, toys (disguise glasses, plastic body parts, magic wands...), etc. Just about non-edible anything. People get a kick out of the "mysterious, and possibly dangerous prizes from exotic places around the world" type promotions I give. For kid events, I'll remove items that could cause problems. I'll also buy from Oriental Trading Company to get bulk give-aways. Last one I did was to give out some plasticy fish necklaces to everyone who sang a song one night - everyone loved it and it cost practically nothing.

Thanks marty3!

Update: I did the "Name That Tune" using TV themes, and it went over great! Everyone loved it! It was alot of fun for me, too. Especially when I played my 'stumpers', and got blank stares. Smiler Only one person knew the theme from "Mannix", one for "Remmington Steel", and another for "Dukes Of Hazzard". Also, no one got the theme from "S.W.A.T."

Dont do many games at my shows, but I might have to start. While shopping for party supplies for NYE, I ran across a place that sold tickets that say "Good for 1 Drink" on them. Perfect for giving away at bars & cheep too. $2 for a roll of 2000. You can find them here:

Look under Tickets & Wristbands.

When playing games with young children, how do you deal with telling a 5 year old "You lost, please sit down." ??
I had one party where we were playing "Hot Sponge Bob" (Hot Potato), and the final loser started crying. Now, I could have given a prize to both of them, but that just didn't seem fair.
Your thoughts / experiences?

Don't do party's for tots myself, so can't help you out there unless you tell him you'll get him a hooker when he turns 16. Something to look forward to, LOL.
Actually you would be playing a number of games if you were doing a gig for young kids. Just tell him there's another game coming up that he can try and win.
Maybe announce no crying for losing before the game starts and that it's all just for having fun.
All else fail threaten him that you'll smash him over the head with a 2 by 4 and really give him something to cry about, LOL. Just kidding guys, never smash a young kid over the head with a 2 by 4, crowbars work better!!! just kidding again, no seriously, tell him he was adopted and those people he thinks are his parents are actually total strangers. God I'm sick!!!! can't help it though LOL.
