I pay roadies $40-$50 per four hour gig. They help setup, stay for the gig, help break down. They also take requests & find music, and any other random task that may come up.

Well,
I like to get paid with gummy bears. But our DJ's get $45/hr weddings, and $35/hr informal events. Roadies get $20/hr. It all depends on where you are located, what the going rates are, what you charge, and how much your willing to clear for your self.

Another issue just to add in is WORKERS COMP INSUANCE..... If you are paying someone to work as they get hurt you can be liable.... Workers Comp Insurance is not that bad to have and not to expensive.... I know many people out there do not have it but you are taking a huge risk..... Hopefully you have liability insurance at least

Most of your workers will fall into the contractor category, so they can be 1099ed and you wont have to worry about workers comp. If they don't work more than 20 hours a week, there not an employee. use an hourly system or a flat rate, don't ever do a percentage based program. or if you get to the point where your big enough you can just place people on salary.
