Have you ever played an event where another DJ is playing? I'm sure this has happened to a lot of us.

I played wedding last year at one of those dance halls where they have the "folding walls"...you know, where they can make one huge room into two or more smaller rooms? Well, I was on one side and they were on the other. Talk about loud night! It was cool, because both of our systems pounding out bass made both of us sound even better. Not surprising, I was told at one point to turn it down because of other people in other parts of the same building were complaining of the loud music...and I'm sure the other DJ was told to turn it down as well. Other than that, I didn't mind playing right next door (literally) to my competition.

Yeah we have done this as well, but at the place we where playing, it was two different rooms right next to each other, and there was two doors that the hotel staff would go in and out for various reasons.. you really couldn't hear the other guy unless the door was open.. We have also played at a car show, it was real big, where the people hired two different DJ's, we was on one side and the other company was on the other.

We have only done one where there were multiple dj's. there was a whole hallway between us, but there were at least twice the people at my event. he did have a hella expensive setup though, we chatted afterwards and it was a pretty cool night.

Yeah I like those situations where you can hook up with other DJ's and watch them work, compare equipment/music and swap stories etc. But this only works if the other DJ is approachable and feels the same way.

This is fairly common in many of the halls around here during the wedding season. I like doing these gigs. If the sound comes through from room-to-room it can be a bit of a distraction, but I do like meeting others and chatting a little. Ditto if there's a band, which is where I got my start.

Ya just recently I did a 50th Birthday party at a hall and there was a wedding reception above. Well it sorta turned into one joind party with people coming and going from both events. Well me and the dj got talkin and we got a conga line going from upstairs to down stairs. Pretty fun. Smiler

One situation I did like this the Bride led a Conga line right out of our party and into his, and this was a long Conga line. Funny thing was that it came back even longer. Later in the evening they crashed our party with a conga line of their own, and it had like 7 people on it. Everyone got a chuckle out of it.
