Hey peeps.. been a Looooooong time since I've been on here.. but when I decided to convert to computer DJing I'd thought I'd stop in for some advice. I'm currently an all CD mobile DJ.. but would like to convert to laptop now that my CD player bit the dust. I'm also sick of hauling my what feels like 400 lbs cd case around.

I've picked up a copy of Virtual DJ that I'm trying out... already discovered the glitch that I can't play my Itunes on it with out converting them.. major bummer. Don't know if there's any better options on that. I plan on setting up two external sound cards so I can run and mix through my current American Audio mixer. Looking at the Behringer U-CONTROL UCA202 USB-Audio Interface for that... I also plan on picking up like a 500 gig external hard drive to store all my music on. Hoping there will be less chance of problems if it's separate. I don't want to DJ with a mouse and keyboard.. so I'd like to find a controller to hook up to control the software like I currently have for my CD player. Jog wheel, pitch control etc.. Any advice on that.. or anything else I've mentioned so far.

Thanks for your help!

Donnie

Well, I'd propose you not to switch entirely to computer DJing since you need of course a very good backup system and a system whil booting up and so on. So I don't like to miss my AmericanDJ SDJ-1 Smiler This is a very great piece of software.
So, now to your question. As a mobile DJ beeing myself I was looking for a very comfortable DJ software that fits my need for a long time. This search has been ended when I found UltraMixer (www.ultramixer.com). I am totally convinced. It does exectly the same in software what AmericanDJ does in hardware. Today, my setup is UltraMixer and SD1 as backup system.

Check out Spacial Audio
They have a program called SAM DJ. It has pitch and tempo adjustments as well as beat matching. A powerful search tool to pull up requests quickly. I DJ on an internet radio station as well so I use SAM Broadcaster. Its basically the same but allows you to stream audio as well. It runs very stable and ive had no problems with it. One piece of advice though store you music on external hard drives and carry two with you at all times. If one fails you have a back up. Keep extra power supply and usb cable as well. I also have a portable MP3 player that i can hook up in an instant if the computer goes down.
