Well I was just goin thru the Chauvet Lighting site... I cam across these 2 scanners...
Intimidator 2.0 & Intimidation 2.0HTI Both are all the same, only the bulbs are different. The 2.0 uses a 250W halogen & the 2.0HTI uses some HTI bulb which is 150W... The HTI scanner is more costly than the normal one. Could anyone tell me the difference between the 2. Following are the links. 2.0HTI http://www.chauvetlighting.com/fixtures/intimhti_fix.shtml 2.0 http://www.chauvetlighting.com/fixtures/intimidator2_fix.shtml Looking forward to a reply... |

The HTI bulb is far brighter. It's just a discharge lamp as opposed to a halogen.

Another reason for the HTI lamp is that it is used more often for televised (or taped) events, where color temperature of luminaire sources must be closely matched. The HTI lamp provides a color that is very consistent(and, thus, easier to color correct with filters)with other discharge lamps that are widely used with large shows.
Another reason for discharge is that the efficacy of these lamps is very high. The lumens per watt generated is very high, and in some instances, allows for longer, more predictable beam patterns. |

I wouldn't say arc lamps are better color temperature wise. As arc lamps age and burn away the anode and cathode, the color temperature actually changes. This is why older arc lamps are duller and less intense then new arc lamps of the same type. Likewise, the glass on the arc lamps also frost over time, farther throwing the color temperature and intensity out of whack.
Halogens maintain the same color temperature and intensity throughout their life. Halogens die without warning however. riverhaus is also correct in that arc lamps have a higher lumen per watt then halogens, but most tend to have a shorter life span then long life versions of halogens. Halogens are also cheaper/much cheaper then arc lamps. Ultimately, depends on your application and what you are looking to do/spend money wise. Halogens will be less upkeep cost (longer lamp life, cheaper replacement lamps) but won't have the higher output of an arc source. There are other advantages and disadvantages besides the ones listed, but I don't think they are applicable in djlion16's case. |
