Hey I'm deciding to get a new power amp, and I want to run it in mono mode. I have a slight issue tho. Some music has specific sounds that only play out one side or the other. If I run my amp in mono bridge mode I'm guessing I will only be able to hear one channel as I don't believe the amp will combine the 2 channels in1 for me. So I'm trying to find out how can I take a stereo signal and combine it into a mono signal before sending it to my amp. I need some help here.

Thanks

DJ Ray,

There are several ways to approach this. The AAudio V series Amps have 3 modes, Stereo, Parallel and Mono-Bridge. The Parallel mode will do what you are after as it takes one input and parallels it to the other side for equal ouput on both channels of the amp.

With that aside, if you have to go mono, its probably better to do it from the mixer rather than the amp especially if you have more than one amp in your system, that way you get equal output from your amp and more control.

Can you tell me more of what application you need to use mono for? It might help to give you a more accurate solution to your problem.

ROQ out.

I just need to power some monitors. I figure I get more bang for my buck if I bridge the amp and feed it 2 8 ohm speakers making it a 4 ohm load seen by the amp.

Y wires will work for splitting a signal, I don't think they should be used for combining signals though.

The amp should combine the two seeing as how it takes power from "both sides" of the amp. UI run mine mostly in mono and they play all the notes, but then again i run the whole system in mono. Makes it much easier, but the amp should play all notes in mono bridged.

Add to that, i think i tried this once and the Y will not work for combining signal they split it not combine it, wierd bt i don't think any signal will get through a y backwards.

Ok, but I would still do it from the mixer. If your mixer doesn't have a mono/stereo switch then the Y cable is the answer. I use a Y adapter from the REC OUT of my mixer to a second amp (set to parallel mode) to run my subs in mono. The rest (tops) are in stereo. Works great for me.
