Has anybody ever replaced the mechanical assembly yourself? If so, how hard or easy is it? It looks like 4 screws and a ribbon cable.

I haven't replaced that particular drive, but many replacements in dual decks are usually fairly straight forward if you have some technical capabilities.

Just a reminder though...Opening any unit voids the warranty (although I doubt your 300 is still under warranty).
