..kind of curious what is or was your most embarrasing moment at a gig..something you can now look back on and laugh about it but at the time was down right awful...

Not a DJ service, sound company. But related.

Busted by butt for this couple for their wedding. Custom CD's for music and not charging...

Anyhow, day of the wedding. Everything goes well. Lighting, sound, we're way ahead of schedule.

Where is the band? They always show up late. 90 minutes in, still no band.

Through the channels that hired the bad, I find out that the band DID NOT flake. They made a chocie via their "manager" to f*ck me over. This band, I might add, I had been using as my exclusive band for those who wanted a specific type of band for THREE YEARS. This is repayment for making them a wanted bad.

A second band was thrown together, but I lost money having the couple demand half payment and the "new band" demanding full pop. But, the negotiations are done behind my back.

Ver embarrassing. With the chatty nature of the community, it nuked my wedding business and I didn't do anything wrong. First event of the season too. 2 years ago.

Oh well. Lesson learned: No contract with band means "nope, don't bother, go find another band who WILL sign a contract."

We're not a DJ service but we do a lot of osund, lights and media at our church. I was calling an Easter production at had 80 people on stage and 20 support people doing tech and stage support. During scene changes I was to receive "all clear" via radio from two people on stage. During one of the scene changes I received one clearly stated clear and a garbled message. When I asked for the second clear I thought I got it so i called the light, media, and music clues. That's when I got a paniced I'm still on stage from the second person. I asked where he was and he answered he was "hiding behind a rock" on stage right. We had to let him hide there until the next scene change. It wasn't funny then then, but it is funny looking back

A person that "used" to help me managed to hit the power button to the amp whilst a director of a social club I am resident at was doing a big speech for his 60th.
The Amp seemed to take ages to power back up and self test.

They say Men can't multi task!!! - I managed to power an amp up and swear non stop at someone for about 30 seconds that night!.

Set the picture,

Its christmas eve, i have bought 2 snow machines for a massive event at the local rugby club.

Everything is setup wonderfully, 4 martin Wizards Exteme, 2 DJ Revo 1 and a couple of dodgy old parcans, the music is pumping out and everyone is having the best time ever.

I ask everyone on the mic , do they want a white christmas, everyone scream yeah, i turn on the snow machines and all is going well and then suddenly a loud pop and the amp and custom built PCDJ laptop goes off.

Haven't got a clue what had happened, tried repowering everything, nothing will come on and then i realise...

I had set the lights up behind me on a trust with the snow machines and as they were pumping out they were also falling on me as well, but i didnt pay attemtion to it as i was in the moment with everyone else Frowner so my equipment got sodden with melting fake snow and exploded.

Moral of the story, take a back up with you and place anything that involves liquid well away from you.

Total Cost to me £2900, £500 for the amp, £2400 for a new ODJ laptop.

Cost to the venue £1900 in ticket refuunds.

NOt good.

I almost had an embarrassing moment at my previous gig. Portion got messy(part of their act) and during strike, I kept slipping on fake guts and blood. Nobody else, just me! Almost lost it several times. had my video camera running the whole time. Even if I did fall, wouldn't compare to what you just shared.

I think for the benefit of this board, you should upload the footage from that video camera hehe.

I think for the benefit of the board, if I ended up falling, I think I'd be obligated to upload it.

Remember, there's always Sac Horror Film Fest next year! I'll have a second chance!

last week for holloween weekend, the crowd at the local club i play at was jumping. i was in the zone, playing all the 80's hits. i was untouchable... until my laptop went out on me. it didnt really go out, it was more like the music sounded all wobbly. like as if you would run your fingers on the side of the record plate on a turntable. i had to ask the crowd to give me a few minutes while i shut the laptop and power it back up, AND install serato back into the comp. did it work? no! the good thing is that it was 1:30 and the music stops at 1:45. people were looking at me like i did it on purpouse. it sucks when you make a name for your self, and just like that, its taken away. happy to report that i have a back up pc and this one works just fine.

TRUE STORY

Years ago I had a bride who was thanking the guests at the end of her reception but nobody could hear her because she was holding the microphone to far from her face. I stood up (without a mic) and motioned with my hand to pull the microphone closer to her mouth. Think about what that looked like.
Thankfully I got a laugh.
