Club DJ |
hey guys
i dj in a club every friday and saturday night. last friday night i had the dancle floor jumping quite early but then with about an hour and a half left till close i noticed that i had nearly run out of music and that people were not quite as in to it as much as they were before. I just have a quick question. should i not get the crowd worked up so early on and just wind my way up to doing that or is it better to get them going at there hardest as soon as i know i can do it? thanks (i hope this made sense, if it didnt just let me know and i will try to explain it better) |

Its a quick question but the answer is somewhat complicated. I don't know anything about your club D-J-X but in general, when playing a club, what and when you play certain songs will depend a lot on the club itself. Things like covercharge, cost-of-drinks, upper class vs lower class area plus the length of your set have to be seriously considered. The more expensive the venue eg. drinks, entry fee, flash decor etc, the more your crowd expects from you. These people will hang around longer so they'll get to hear more of your set. If that's the case I would pace myself, leave the aces for when the room is full(er) or later in the night, this entices people to stay longer waiting for their song and the inevetible "rush hour frenzy" you get from the regular clubbers i.e. loyal customers.
If on the other hand the club has free entry, not as flash as the upper class venue, I would go hard from the beginning, hit em with the aces straight up, if you don't people will get bored and can easily walk out to another venue, I know I would. If you are running out of music you seriously need to beef up your music collection - remixes of popular songs are always a good alternative if you get hammered to repeating a song. Try throwing in 1 or 2 old school tracks to fill in, mix-it-up with different styles of music - be un-predictable. Good luck ROQ out. |

Cool, the Nightlife system has an excellent retro range. Have a look at the "Party" category, there's heaps of classic floor-fillers in there for you to choose from.
Since entry is free to your club, people have no rights to complain about your music. I would then definately mix it up, old and new music, more importantly play to the women. Good luck. ROQ out. |
