Hi Guys. Reading this forum has been great. I am getting all sorts of great ideas but I am confused a bit by my plans on purchasing some products maybe you can help me clear up.

I am pretty new to the dj thing but here it goes.

I am looking to purchase some intelligent lighting like a scanner and I think I have it narrowed down to two ADJ products.

I really like the ScanTron 250 and the Deluxe Scan 250 but I'm not sure which is better. I am going to be buying a pair of whichever ones come up on top from your suggestions.

I need it to be able to last for about 8 hours without shutting down to cool because I'm going to be using them to dj weddings and I cant see any wedding gig lasting longer than that.

I need it to be durable and tough cause I really would like to have the product for a few years before It gives up and dies.

Do the sound to light built in programs look good or should I have these a few months to program DMX before I do a gig or will the sound to light look ok for the meantime.

I bought this vertigo light and i was thinking of getting some pars as well to go with an ADJ truss . Not the 300 pound capacity one but just the 200 pund one. Will this be enough with the two scanners for partys around 150 - 300??.

Does anybody own either of these products (scanners) ??. Should I really not bother if I'm only going to buy two ?? or should I wait until I can afford four??. I have a few gigs coming up and your suggestions would be helpful.

Sorry for all the q's at once but I figured if I am going to be asking the guys who do this all the time for a living I should be pretty thourough in my post.

Thanks

Rob

hey and welcome to the forum. well u are looking at two modest lights but would be good for ur business. the scan tron is a nice fixture and has nice gobos but it is also a limited fixture but a great strober.the deluxe scan is just like the performance scan but the gobo's don't rotate. but u get nice colors and very nice gobos. if it were up to me i would buy a set of FOUR deluxe scans. and if u want to program them u need a controller. i recommend the dmx operator 192 with the joystick. i have one and it works well. if u need anything else hit me up. if i skipped something let me know. peace! jingles.

I know theyre not the greatest lights in the world but will 2 deluxes look stupid until I get 2 more??.

Gotta start small I dont have a huge budget.

Also with the vertigo how long can that thing run will it just shut off if overheated ??. the manual says to only use it five minutes at a time??.

Thanks Rob

2 deluxe scans should work fine for now if that is all u acn afford. for the vertigo go by what the manual says. also i believe they have a led version of that now. so check out the led section on the homepage. leds are same brightness and can run for like days at a time before they get way too hot. peace. jingles.

hey bro i was looking at chauvet and i see nothing about rotating gobo's. look intim. 2.0 or intim. 2.0 HTI i see nothing on rotatng gobo on both of those scanners. i checked the dmx table chart. now the moving head versions of these lights do but not the scanners from what i can tell. if u want a nice scanner with rotating gobos go with the accu scans. i know u can get them for around 800 bux's but worth every penny. the accu series from adj is one of the best in the industry! i personally don't like chauvet. if u need anything else let me know.

Hi there!

Sorry if the isn't the right place... I didn't really know where to post my question.

I'm 17 and I've been a mobile dj for two years now so I don't have a ton of experience as you can guess. I have a question regarding two intelligent scanners that I just bought. I only use T-bar tripods to install my fixtures, and I'd like to know if there is a specific way or clamp to hang scanners to them. For the moment, I only hang them using the included screws and bolts, however the scanners are therefore very vertical, which keeps them from projecting very far. I always put my tripods as high as I can, but in this case this doesn't seem to help.

Thanks in advance!

Try looking for the O clamps or the pro clamps. Make sure the clamps weight rating can handle the weight of your fixtures.

You can loose up the hex bolts inside the T-bar coupler and rotate the entire bar.

The better option are o-clamps, C-clamps, and S-clamps that have weight ratings that exceed what your fixture actually weighs.

Don't forget your safety cables.

Just to add since Chris mentioned safety cables. Safety cables should be rated for 5-10x what they hopefully won't have to hold up. This is because they have to undergo greater forces when holding a fixture up since the fixture will free fall for a bit before the safety catches the fixture.

It is an important rule to remember, since if you have clamp failure, you don't want safety failure as well. Hanging objects can easily kill or seriously injury someone.

This has been a broadcast of the public safety division, we now return you to your regularly scheduled programs. Thank you and have a nice day.

Oh, forgot to mention something else. C-Clamps sometimes don't have a weight limit listed. This is because they are steel/iron. Only aluminum clamps, like Pro-Clamps or Mega Clamp C-Clamps, do. Does this mean they aren't usable, no. Just don't try and hang a 60+ lb moving light with one.

I am not sure what the ratings are on AMDJ's C-Clamp are nor what they are made of. However, the Pro-Clamp is 1000 lbs and the smaller Narrow Clamp is rated for 350 lbs. So weight limits decrease quickly as you take away metal or increase quickly as you add it.

So another rule of thumb, if hanging something heavy, use aluminum clamps with ratings, not steel/iron.

If you want a Vertigo thats great but upgrade to the Vertigo TRI-LED. It has no duty cycle you can run it all night without worry. Try to get LED lights for everything. LED costs more to start with, but, with no duty cycles and not having to replace bulbs youll save big money in the long run. Plus the par cans with LED can do multi-colors so that reduces the number of lights you need as well as the weight on your truss.
