Just in case some of you mobile, wedding DJ's haven't heard the ROD STEWART "Great American Songbook" Discs, just let me tell you these are a must to pick up for your gigs. He has put out 3 volumes now of this stuff. I mixed the 3 of them onto 2 discs and use these for entrance, ****tail, or dinner music. They are always a crowd pleaser. Over 2 hours of music. Just thought I mention it. Haven't been on the site for a while now, but I am still here. Hope everyone's doing well. Slow time of the season for me right now, nothing till June. Trying to get into a few bars right now just so I have a steady flow of money coming in from the business.

Cool. Thanks DOGG!
Of course, I'll have to ask the wife or a friend to pick it up for me. Big Grin
And forget ordering it online. The last thing I need is proof that I purchased a Rod CD. Smiler

I have all 3. Phenomonal CD's. If you don't want/or can't afford all three. My recommendation is that volume 2 was the best overall.

Just a quick question. Those are all Rod songs on the 3 discs right? Why would you want to play Rod back to back to back? I know he has ALOT of great songs, but it just seems like someone might think: "Wow what a lazy DJ. He just threw a Rod CD on and let it play" Don't take that the wrong way guys. I know everyone here is a professional but you know how the general public thinks.

I always ask what they want, if they know. That John Tesh movie themes disc always goes over well. Otherwise, having some compilations - Rat Pack, smooth jazz, ballads, etc. usually works (and provides time for the meal!).

I don't see the problem in playing a whole album from start to end. I don't think it's perceived as being lazy either. Dinner/background music esp at Weddings is exactly that - background music. We use it to make up the ambience instead of dead silence, no-one really listens to it, they're too busy talking to pay attention to it, that's why the volume levels are always low - to allow conversation. I use the "work smarter - not harder" philosophy and use that time to mingle and get to know my crowd so that I have a better idea on what to play when they are actually paying attention - during dancing.

Back on subject, Rod Stewart is an excellent choice. I'm also currently playing Michael Buble - It's Time album.

ROQ out.

Beat me again ROQ... Wink

I made a "dinner mix" CD that's continuous. Pop it in, and up to 74 minutes to do what I want. Mostly, prepare for the rest of the night, and eat. It does make life simpler.

I'm diggin the Michael Buble stuff, too.

What I do is rip all my.....
Prime Cuts Jazz
Frank Sinatra
Rod Stewart
Kenny G
Sade
Harry Connick
Nat King Cole
etc. etc. Big Band and Jazz (approx 1000 trax) to my PC, then I put the best tracks into a waitlist and let it randomly shuffle in PC DJ. This way the music levels are automatically controlled, they are crossfaded track to track (instead of dead air between) and I can concentrate on going over details with the B&G to make them comfortable and make things run smootly.

Also Bill's Ideal is great I used to do the pre-mixed CD thing (and about 10 years ago pre mixed tape), but I started getting sick of hearing the same tracks in the same order each week. I carry my lappy for my music database anyway, so I use this to my advantage by making a custom dinner playlist taylored to each wedding, and I have time to eat as well.

Yeah, I wouldn't play an entire cd unless it's Dave Brubeck or something.
I would see it as being lazy.

Just make some cd compilations up, mixing up the arists, and not having 2 back to back. At least four of them. Some being somewhat upbeat, and some being softer.
