I know that the use of a fog machine enhances the lighting but in my limited use of a fog machine I actually drove people away...which I don't want to do.
Alot of people are sensitive to the fog or have breathing or asthma problems and I don't want to drive people away. So, the question is what recommendations do you have for dj lighting that actually looks good without the use of fog. Thanks. |

depends on a few variables. Do you want a wash effect? A disco light effect? Our galaxian lasers are great with or without fog. Also what's your budget?

Well, I'm one of those people who react poorly to fog machines. I am positive it's just a "mind over matter" thing as many people get to feeling all closed in when the get surrounded by fog and their physiology reacts. My chest feels light, my breathing feels labored, but I'm othewise fine, no harm done at all. And I'm aware of this, but I don't use my fog machines because they draw too much power, bt that's what fog machines do.
The fog juice itself should not cause any direct reactions, it is considered to be medically safe. Still, you never know. In your case, maybe you over-used it a little. That's just an experience thing. I do agree that fog helps enhance lighting. Really, I'd say anything that isn't a wash light(Par cans is a good example), it helps people see the beams. Scanners, things like an Electra-type light, or a Mystic, or Vertigo or SunRay III. Even movers and even more so with moving gobos. I worked with a band recently that had a heavily synced light show and they really DID need fog, and the fog machine was triggered to ensure enough was there when needed. Without the fog, their light show would have made NO sense. So, in some cases, it can make a difference. So, anything with a "beam", you want fog. If fog is too much, go hazer. Thinner fog, continuous. Less reaction from people. In my first fog machine usage, there was something wrong, and it smelled like it was on fire, so I had to stop using it due to the small. It was under warranty, this was the first usage, ADJ did their thing and replaced it. My brother in law borrows one of my fog machines each year to take to a friends house for a party that guy throws. I also think ADJ uses fog in their demo videos. Really, those are great videos to watch to get a basic evaluation of the unit and you can see how they look in the fog. It's not just the light hitting the floor or surface, it's sometimes that whole beam. Check out my site, I think I'm live again. Hit the pictures link and view the I think it's October 16 or something like that. It's the first of three days for the Sac Horror Film Fest. The video there shows that band and some of their light show. See how fog can make a show happen. Enjoy. |
