It really depends on what you put INTO it.

My issues with the 3D Visualizer are more based on the 3D Visualiser not being able to do certain things so I can feel better about them working properly, such as sound active modes. But I have a big show where I will have time to test this with coming up.

For me, I've found the 3D Visualizer to be accurate enough for me to get a sufficient proof of concept and comfort level, especially with my moving heads.

I wouldn't give it a 100% rating as I don't think that is feasible with any program. For me, I'd say based on how I use it, I'd feel comfortable saying 95%.

Really, most of the issue is how much time and effort are you willing to put in ahead of time to your stages and the accuracy of your mountings and placements? For me, I use the same generic room and it has worked fine for me, because most rooms I need to concern myself about are square.

I wanna say about 80% correct. BUT you have a lot of variables there. For one is fixture position on truss. Say your moving head's home position is down and facing the back wall on the 3D yet when it is set up in front of you it is down and facing the crowd. Also accurate trim height effects proper beam angles and positions of "Spot" cues. Get what I'm saying. you CAN get it But it takes a LOT OF TIME to get it 100% perfect. I rely on it for the most part but don't fully believe everything will turn out spec for spec vs real and 3D set up the first try.

3D visualizers are dependent upon how much data you put into them and how accurate that data is. I have never used the MyDMX 3D visualizer, but speaking from Vector Works Spotlight and WYSIWYG, it can be 100% accurate. However, those programs let you enter so much data, even to the point of making fixtures and what size they are.

Example wise, all major out door events like the Olympics and Super Bowl half time shows are generally programmed 100% in visualizers and then tweaked and tested once the rig is up. Reason for this is no real rehearsal time with the rig since it is temporary/one off events and can't leave the gear in place for many days.

So yes, can be done to 100%. Not sure if it is possible in MyDMX's visualizer though because of the finer details like fixture size. Also don't know how much data and how accurate the units of that data entered can be. For example, a truss that has 4 fixtures hung on it exactly 10.375 (3/8) inches apart from the center of each fixture from each other.

Well one thing i plan on doing when i get my new desktop tomorrow is check out how the graphics handles our 3D viz.(both my dmx and compu live) And also download briefly and try out martins MSD. But shhh don't tell anyone at my work. I'm really excited about this desktop. quad core at 2.66GHz and 6Gb ram and 1024 Nvidia GTS 240 graphics card. Will also be nice to test out the 64 bit driver issue with my dmx.
