I was just curious to see if there is any possiblity to share shows for a given fixture, say "Chauvet - Mini Spot LED". I just can not seem to get my arms of understanding to create a coherent light show using the effects generator in my dmx. I am creating scenes manually (long handed and time consuming.) Is there a tutorial that will help get a good grasp of what MyDMX will really do. I have: 1 Chauvet minspot, 2 Galaxian 3d, & 4 Chauvet intimidator 1.0. I appreciate any help to get my moneys worth from MyDMX.

Hey welcome to the forums. I too am from minneapolis. question did you buy your my dmx from a guitar center by southdale mall? does the name adam ring a bell? haha.

i really don't think anyone could share a show with you as no ne has the exact same gear as you therefore the addressing will be different etc. Tell me what your trying to do and i will do my best to help you. I used to program shows for some customers but I charge them.
Sincerely,

Yes I do remember Adam...Hello again.
The problem I keep running into is this: I try to generate a scene using the FX generator, it generates all these lines of instructions to the fixture, let's say the minspot, only to have these 100 lines of instruction and finding out that turning on the red led does not happen. Then again did i miss a tutorial somewhere? That would tell me how to create a simple red light with all the gobos lite in red light?!

So what you saying is that there is no way to import a scene into a show because it is channel specific?

for your Fx gen problem. Create your color using the Effects generator. When you see Red green blue. turn red on put it at constant and then do your movements it will save. Here is a picture. i highlighted the areas that let you make static color changes.

Also you cannot import scenes to the software just show files. i could send you a show file but if i have gear that you dont and we do share the same fixture but on different addresses it waste a lot of space doesn't it? Get what im' saying? it's better to have some one send you a show file that has programming built specifically for YOUR show.
hope this makes sense. any questions let me know. By the way Adam is a cool guy. Anytime i am in town i stop in to see how he's doing with both compu live and my dmx.

My suggestion for creating shows:

1: Go to shows. See what works, study it. You'll learn to notice things and take better mental notes, but pen and paper work great too.

2: Practice. The 3D Visualizer lets you practice and see if it SHOULD work.

3: Don't be afraid to fail. Trying and failing is NOT true failure. We all screw up, so take chances. Notate what works and doesn't. Hopefully you can work in environments where you can practice with others involved and try and fail or try and succeed.

4: Don't quit. You're gonna suck. Practice will help you get better, or at least suck less. Accept the fact you'll suck and fail, and in many cases fail horribly. Learn from the experience, get back on the MyDMX workstation and try some more. Just, don't quit.
