I forgot another question! How can I copy entire scenes to different files?

I have several scenes (composed of several steps each) which, combined, form a show that coincides with a song our band plays. Example: Scenes are Intro, verse, hook 1, verse 2, hook 2, guitar solo, hook 3, fadeout = 1 song. Each scene has a shortcut key on the PC, which I "play" along with the band (& my keyboards), so everything syncs realtime. Or pretty close. I combine the songs into a file according to the setlist (typical filename: Name-of-bar-set1A), and load the files during set breaks or "talk-to-the-crowd-while-I-load-this-file" segments.

The need to copy scenes to different files arose when the Bass Player showed up to practice and said, "Guys! I redid the setlists!" Fortunately, I didn't injure him permanently. He can still use a straw.

There must be an easy way to do this that I'm overlooking. I've tried copying the scenes, opening a new or existing file, but can't paste. Similarly, I've tried copying and pasting steps into newly named scenes in the new files - nope. Please point to the post if this question has been asked before. Lay your wisdom down upon me, before I take my Bass Player's straw away. Thanks in advance. myDMX Rules!

Sorry to say but you cant do that. there is no way to copy scenes from one show file (.dlm file) to another. At least i have not found a way yet. your getting into more advanced programming. perhaps upgrade to compu live? you can download the software and try it out. the only restriction is you cant control lights as you do not have the proper interface.

Listen Children! Uncle Jingles just taught us something important. I'm thinking the following might be best for me, given my previously described "x# of scenes = 1 song" equation. Please discuss.

1. Save all your Scenes, no matter what, to a Monster Master file
2. When in Monster Master file, delete what you don't need, & use "Save As" for the new file/setlist
3. when you close, do NOT save changes to the Monster Master file.
4. Go back into the new file/setlist and do brand new keyboard shortcuts.

In hindsight, I should have done this before, but stupid mistakes is how we humans learn. So read, my children, and don't let this happen to you! myDMX Rules!

I think I mentioned the SAVE AS concept a few months ago.

Right now I'm working on/from my monster master file. Highly organized.

Also, you can use 1 scene per song if you want as you can time your steps. Another way to go.

In my example of the 3-hour rave, I'm simply making a massive scene wiht what may end up having hundreds or thousands of steps. Should be fine. I will save quite often. I won't need MyDMX for anything else for that day. I have a day time concert, then a well-lit indoor cosplay(which probably starts during the last band's set) and then after cosplay ends, the rave will begin.

Chances are, during a set, you're not going to have time between songs to change your show file. Make 1 scene per song, and well label or use shortcuts. You need reliability and stability on stage. Don't complicate things AND DO have it backed up onto a USB thumb drive or memory stick. This ain't a place to mes around.
