OK, so I'm preparing for a show. The good news is that if this all fails, it doens't matter, so the pressure is off me. I can go with my 64B LED Pros and get the job done.

I'm using a pair of Chauvet Q-Spot 150's in 9 channel mode. My MyDMX profile is perfect, so no issues there. Everything WORKS, so we're not dealing with equipment flat out not working.

What I want to do is, using the FX generator, draw a circle on the wall, and then have a gobo in it rotating. Using the FX generator, the light makes a "pass" around the room, which is neat and all, but I want to keep the lighting focused on the stage area, or rather a specific area.

In order to do this, I see that I'm going to have to limit the values of X and Y, which is fine, no complaints there.

What I don't see is some function in MyDMX where I can limit certain values. It would appear that X and Y need to remain in the value range of 100-150(or so), so that way I can get the light where I want it. Using the 3D Visualizer, I can see that the area I want to be in corresponds roughly to X and Y values being restricted to 100-150, and hence want to resrict any movement to that region.

Where is the light going to be located. I'm planning on putting it on top of my speaker. Trust me, weight isn't an issue. The stand can support 300 pounds and is a platform-type stand. There is TONS of flat space on top of the speaker, so again, no issue. I could add more details, such as tie-downs, weight loading and more fun stuff, but it ain't important. We can even take all that out and just state that "I want the fixture to draw circles on the wall within a region or area I specify".

As I said, if this FAILS, I'm covered, nobody even knows I am bringing the movers. But If I can use them the way I want to, I can use this to market that I have them and can use them better. I'll just use them to put some rotating gobo thing at fixed points around the staging area, maybe some gobo rolls, things like that.

I'm just wondering if I am overlooking something. The manual is not helping me much.

Using this, I can really crank out most of what I want to do. Once this is done, I can do other related things. If MyDMX can't do this, then I'll just be a little restricted. Even so, this won't be a "app killer" for MyDMX for me as mostly what I need it for are still fixtures anyways.

Chris this is simple. i use this all the time. on the EFX Gen under pan/tilt effects. let me post a few pics for ya. in the first pic you'll see a orange cross with arrow points on each end of the cross. that is what your gonna want to hit to adjust the size of your circle.

on this next pic you'll see i made the circle smaller and in a different area. you can use this to target certain areas. NOTE: this moves the values to BOTH moving heads.

to get the heads moving at separate times like one on one side of the wall and the other on the opposite side if u see the phase slider drag that to 50% and it should work. Check it out. if you have any questions let me know. you also have my email hit me up if u need too.
Sincerely,

I'll definately try it out. I think I was heading in that path, but wasn't getting the right results.

Thanks. I'll post update in a day or so. I'm prepping for my show. Thank goodness for the 3D Visualizer!

Yeah, that's the ticket. It's not perfect, but that's an "operator issue", not a MyDMX issue. But, that's definately giving me the direction I needed to get this done.

Just a word of notes: This defiantely requires preperation BEFORE going into the FX manager, like setting my colors and other things like that. I'll play more later.

I think I'll spend a LOT of time making new stuff for my show. Tired of not having movers used at my events. I've had them for 2 years and never once used them at an event..

Liking MyDMX more and more each day. I wish I wasted my day playing with MyDMX instead of re-doing three racks(that really could have waited).

Thanks again!

Tip: if you ever forget to set color or gobos or want to add color or gobo combos. simply go into the steps section and hold down CTRL and then click on the step(s) you wish to edit and then change the values on the channels you want, it will hold those steps and make the changes only on those steps. make sense?

That would have saved some time.

Makes sense, will make more sense tomorrow as I'm sure I'll make more mistakes.

Thanks again.

OK, so I'm doing what you showed me, and it WAS working, so I go check the 3D Visualizer(2 days later, after first confiming it was good enough) and lo and behold, the circles are basically going everywhere they feel like.

So, screw it. Make a new one, right?

20 step circle. What is is generating? 6 steps. Now MyDMX getting buggy after latest round of Windows updates. I can see what Microsoft would toss at me that would affect MyDMX, but then again, we've seen microsoft do some dodgy things before(we call it Windows Vista...).

Anyhow, just frustrated that the software isn't performing as it was. Rebooting and restarting doesn't change anything. I've saved the circle pattern I wanted so I could re-use it as I intend to do the same thing with multiple colors.

Can't figure out what I could be overlooking
