Hi all,
Having purchased a rather large quantity of ADJs products, ADJs MYDMX was a control software that ive purchased for the smaller events that i do that require simple and easy controllability. Now, cutting a long story short, i installed the software onto my own personal laptop when i was working on an event with a friend. I installed his ADJ software (which he downloaded from the website) and used his USB DMX box. All worked well. So well in fact, that i bought a box for myself. Cutting a long story short, when UNISTALLED the software and reinstalled it, my own MYDMX box would not boot up when connected to my laptop. The red power led lights up constantly, the green DMX led blinks at you (showing the signal is converting to DMX ok), however the USB LED only lights for a second when the box is first connected, and then it immediately goes out. The MYDMX software will then only boot up in DEMO mode ONLY. Whether i change lead, uninstall and reboot up, or change USB sockets, the system will no longer boot up and operate.....making my rather simple and USB DMX controller utterly useless. When installing on my own home pc, or on other laptops....it works fine. So i KNOW its not a MYDMX box fault. The ADJ system is great, but after speaking to one of my technical guys whose quite good on pcs, he believes that the ADJ Software (which is an ADJ badged version of Daslight) is leaving its REGISTRY key GYD codes on my laptop. These are apparantly confusing the system on bootup and causing the box to not operate........even though the USB box devices and drivers are recognized and installed on my laptop. Can ADJ PLEASE sort this problem out. It appears that i am NOT the only person to encounter the fault here in the uk, and if it happens to me, then its bound to happen to other owners of the product. Apparantly a REGISTRY KEY & GYD CODE remover patch should be applicable and provided that can remove the keys. As an end user it is near on impossible to find these REGISTRY KEYS & GYD CODES by just searching. Plus...once deleted..they are NON returnable. So one error could result in a non ADJ MY DMX key/gyd code deleted and causing non operation of another programme. |

And your using the latest version on both computers right? Cause there is a version out there that will not recognize the dongle cause they updated the drivers.

Yep.
Both have the same installed software version that was downloaded direct from ADJ's website. Ive actually got MyDMX now running on 2 computers. One laptop (my brothers) and my main desktop PC. All running fine from the same software that was downloaded online. Since unistalling and reinstalling the software on my laptop however, the system NEVER wants to boot up in USB Mode. Its always booting in DEMO...even with the USB box connected. Like i mentioned in my 1st post. The Power LED on the box lights, the DMX LED blinkers on the box, the green USB LED only lights for a second, then goes straight out! From a technical geeky good friend of mine, he believes the problem lies with the Registry GYD keys from when the software is first installed. When the software is re-installed, the software will happily install, the box and its drivers happily install and the laptop recognises this......however he believes the Registry files arent matching meaning the USB signal wont send out to the mydmx box! |

For your records, the software was first installed on my laptop on Friday 5th December 2008. It was then uninstalled on Sunday 13th December 2008.
The same software version was then installed on my desktop PC on December 15th 2008 to ensure the DMX box wasnt faulty. All worked fine. The programme software was then also installed on my brothers laptop on 19th December 2008 as I wanted it for a job on the 20th. All fine again. With my laptop though..the box just aint playing. And i darent take the software off my PC or brothers laptop as it may cause the same problem. It was then installed on both my laptop and |

Boot computer with dongle unplugged.
Plug in dongle, wait for computer to recognize it. Then launch MyDMX. Enjoy. It's really that simple 95% of the time. Also check your USB cable, make sure it's a decent quality one. The one that comes with MyDMX is OK, but nothing special, but it does get the job done. -- Chris Pickett, Studio42 916-601-7089 http://www.studio42.com Anti Spam Advocate: http://www.studio42.org |

Chris, without wanting to sound rude, but thats already been done. It tells you to do that in the manual!
The whole point is that the laptop is recognising the dongle, and the software is working ok....it just doesnt boot up in USB Mode and the dongle doesnt want to light its USB LED up. This is all on my laptop. Everything is pointing to a registry key coding error which is causing errors with not only my unit, but also OTHER peoples mydmx here in the UK. Daslights users experience the same problem also (My DMX is an ADJ badged version of Daslight). Obviously im investing my money in a product that has a slight glitch. In the interests of ADJ and its customer base, this does need sorting, as it seems to be an occuring error/problem for some users. Im not having a go at ADJ because of this, as the product IS excellent. Its just if this is a common problem then its best sorted and got to the bottom of. Im going to do a Windows System restore and take my laptop BACK to the start of december before the software was installed. If it cures the problem then it is going to confirm a registry fault. |

Ok one and all.
I now have MYDMX back up and running on my laptop. After doing a system restore back to the start of december (before the software was first installed), and now re-installing ADJ's software and drivers, the system is fully operational again. As per the advice of my friends who are knowledgeable on computers, it seems that when the ADJ software is un-installed and then re-installed on the same computer, the registry keys are left on the machine. When the software is re-installed, the registry keys conflict and the system is defaulting to the original installation keys. Therefore blocking any output USB control signal to the dongle. The box wont "communicate" properly with the software, and therefore ensuring that it ALWAYS boots up in DEMO mode. To all those that have had this fault, a system restore is the simplist and easiest option to clear this error. However, a "rip out" patch should be created or provided by ADJ when the product is sold. This is a patch which will clear the WHOLE of your pc of all codings, registry codes and keys. or software files and folders for the software and drivers. ADJ - id keep this info to hand as its not just me here in the UK that is getting this fault. |

Without knowing what brand of laptop and pre-load installed on it, that doesn't help much either.
It could be some various crap-ware that you got installed via a web surfing drive-by that caused your problems for all we know. Do you have AV softwre installed? You'd be amazed how much bad crap is out there. You on broadband?(xDSL or cable?) Are you using a router? If not, change your tactics and get a router or you're being attacked 24X7. Truth: The Windows firewall and any other third party firewalls DO NOT WORK. Yeah, a bit of truth MS doesn't want you to know and won't admit. The problem is at the core of the OS, it's not designed properly. Besides, a firewall is better off being a hardare appliance, not some after-through software. Usually, when someone says they are poking around in the registry, it's typically because they or their "guy" already hosed up something and it's trying to do CYA tactics. I also notice a lot of hacking going on in the UK. I get a few thousand emails a month for people begging for help because "this don't work, that don't work.....", so obviously, there's a bad trend of poor PC work going on over there. I unfotunately have to ignore those emails because they won't pay to ship overseas and besides, it's typically cheaper to simply back-off their data, wipe and reload from factory defaults. I've successfully installed and uninistalled and re-installed MyDMX on machines in my network that are capable of handling the product. The main computer it runs on is a MacBookPro running Bootcamp 2.1 and then XP Home with latest patches, hotfixes and latest Norton AV. -- Chris Pickett, Studio42 916-601-7089 http://www.studio42.com Anti Spam Advocate: http://www.studio42.org |

Here is a word from our developers.
"“The installation program does not write anything in the registry. The only thing that we do not delete are the USB drivers. They stay on the computer even if the software is uninstalled" Sincerely, ![]() James D. I think when doing an uninstall, the USB drivers for MyDMX should be removed as well. It's a courtesy. And if someone should want to uninstall MyDMX, then the dongle is just decoration anyways, so might as well remove the drivers.
Does install do a checksum on the existing driver to see if it's corrupted in case of doing an install-over? I just dislike how floppy Windows is. Everyone pukes into the OS directory, nobody cleans it up. "Barf, here's my contribution...." and repeat for every application. No wonder there are so many software conflicts these days. It should be called a latrine, not an operating system! -- Chris Pickett, Studio42 916-601-7089 http://www.studio42.com Anti Spam Advocate: http://www.studio42.org |
