We recently installed MyDMX at our church where we also use MediaShout to drive our video projector. My ultimate goal is to drive MyDMX from MediaShout. I've seen examples online of driving lighting consoles from MediaShout by playing .MID files from the MediaShout script (example: http://www.geocities.com/mikeolivercgp/).

I installed the Maple Virtual MIDI Cable and have successfully triggered MyDMX scenes by playing single note .MID files from Windows Media Player. But I had to use my laptop's play/pause button so that I could keep MyDMX in the foreground.

Now here's my dilemma: In order to pull this off effectively I need MyDMX to respond to the MIDI command even when it is in the background--MediaShout must be in the foreground. Is there any way to get MyDMX to respond to MIDI commands when running in the background?

Or is there some other way to trigger MyDMX scenes while it is running in the background? That capability opens up a whole new realm of possibilities...

My testing has shown that MyDMX needs to be in the background. When I test with MyDMX in the background, it just stops working, or at least isn't responding to triggers. I may try some other stuff since I have additional goodies to test with, but I am rapidly running out of USB ports....

I'm glad the virtual MIDI cable thing works for you. I'm not about to try it, but that's just me. I am "old school".

The best way to open a whole new realm of possibilties is to use sepparate laptops for MediaShout and MyDMX and a couple of MIDI interfaces. This is the least problematic solution. I think that this would be your best bet for a stable and reliable solution.

I agree with Chris; triggering another program from MediaShout sounds risky.

We use MediaShout for video presentation and also use 20 Pro 64's controlled separately with an Operator Pro control panal. It's been our experience that media should can get a little "flaky" in some situations and we choose not to load it further with lighting controls.

We have 8 programmed scenes on our Operator Pro and most of them have a couple steps that support most of what we do on a Sunday morning.

If we are doing something more elaborate, we bring in a third person for lights and a forth person to act as stage manager and call the show.

Let us know if you continue using Media shout successfully to control your lighting. We may re-examine and try your approach. Best of luck
