I have hooked the Derby X up to a DMX board and it works just as the owners manual states that it should (as far as what channels should do what)... however, when I assign the 8 channels into MyDMX it seems to have a mind of its own. I have it assigned to channel 1-8 and have checked and double checked the dip switches and exchanged the DMX cable two or three times. The lighting instument does respond, but it doesn't respond correctly. For example - channel 2 should control the color output -- however, channel 2 does nothing.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Wow. i'm not sure what to think. i doubt it is the software as i know it won't black out just one channel as dmx is sort of a all or nothing thing. what other things work when it does this?
Sincerely,

I can't find the Derby X on the ADJ site, either as a current or discontinued item. I did find it as a Chauvet fixture.

First, does the fixture have a DMX status/presence indicator light? If so, they typically blink, some very rapidly(like my Chauvet Intimidator Colors) or are on solid like on my ADJ Dimmers and power packs.

There have been some reports of problems with Chauvet fixtures and MyDMX. All I can say is that I don't have any issues with my Intimidator Color 1.0's, my 2 Follow Spot's and my 2 Q-Spot 150's. It is suspected that the MyDMX dongle doesn't put out a full strength signal, which my account for the issues you are seeing.

DO you have something like the OptoBranch/4 to front-end your connection? I use this between MyDMX and my various runs for lighting and I have yet to have any issues.

In test environments(MyDMX dongle right to the fixture), I also had no problems. I never tried going to my Chauvet fixtures long distance without the OptoBranch/4.

Neat fixture. Contact Chauvet. Just a warning that my experiences have been less than stellar with that company. I'd suggest calling over email, but I always suggest going that way anyways.

USB dongles don't have as much power behind them as consoles, splitter corrects this as Chris pointed out. Likewise, it is also a known fact that some Chauvet fixtures don't work real will with anything but Chauvet controllers, be it hardware or software.

I am not familiar with the fixture in question nor have I heard anything in the way of problems regarding it. So you might have simply discovered another Chauvet fixture that doesn't play nicely.

It seems odd that companies would organize and create a standard(DMX-512) and then go about rejecting it like that.

It almost sounds Cisco-like...(I can say this, I used to do tech support and sales as a reseller of Cisco products, until they began screwing me out of business, but that's another story for another day).

At any rate, if people have been following my latest requests for "free consulting", they should notice I've been restricting my purchase options to ADJ, Elation and those companies under that unbrella. SerraAva has certainly added some information outside the scope, but it was done to talk about some of the features of specific types of products.

So, I suppose I'm lucky my Chauvet fixtures work properly. I've also made it clear going forward that whenever possible, I'll be going ADJ or Elation and their products.
