Need advice on purchase of a contoller and dimmers.
Been playing around doing parties at home for some time and last winter spent a few thousand on audio and lighting and going semi pro. Having tons of fun but realize now how important lighting can be.
Have 8 cans and a vertigo on a truss using a basic 4 ch (cheapo)controller and a seperate switch on the vertigo. "May" add intelligent lights as $$ permits.
Want to have the following control on all 8 cans, separate and as a group, dimming, sound activation, all on/off, fading to sound and manually.
There are budget issues so the "best" is probably out of the question now.
Any advice will be welcome!
Oh yes, what is MIDI in respect to a controller?
Thanks!

There are many controllers that can do what you need. Goto www.americandj.com and search the controllers and see which ones you like. For dimmer packs I reccommend the DPDMX-4B and/or DPDMX-20L. Feel free to e-mail me in you have any questions, concerns need suggestions etc. (drewmeistr6@yahoo.com)

That is part of the reason I am asking. There are some many controls and so many features it is mind bogling. Add that with the fact I know little about what the terms are and it makes a mess.
There is a local DJ that has been helping me a bunch. I get the feeling he is wearing thin on advice from our last couple conversations and hate to push it.
Our local music store is owned by the biggest idiot I have ever met. Known him for years and have truly regretted every minute I have had to be around him.
Give me some ideas of what you would use.
Thanks again!

Went for a long drive picked up a American DJ Light Station yesterday, a couple dimmer packs, cables and a new rack.
The controller is neat as heck. Not a lot and maybe no intelligent programming but it will sure make the cans dance!
Played with it till midnight in the living room. Wifey will probably have a cow when she gets up and looks at the mess still there Eeker but we have a party to do
Saturday afternoon/early evening and want to get familiar with it before hand. Don't need the lites there, it is in a shelter house but setting them up to get the feel before they are important to have.
