Does anyone know an easy way to restore the factory settings on an old Auto-Mate DMX controller? I have the version that was originally pre-programmed for Mighty Scans and would like it returned to that. Thanks for any help...

It may have been a dealer pre-load on the programming for the Mighty Scans. A typical return to factory default SHOULD theoretically wipe all programmed settings and start you over with a clean slate.
Consider yourself warned. I know many dealers who are selling various controllers with pre-programmed shows. They are doing something with the units before the controllers are being sent out. The good side is that they've already tested the controllers so you're pretty much guaranteed no "in-box fatalities". The bad thing is if you wipe it or redo it, you're not going to get that pre-load back. -- Chris Pickett, Studio42 916-601-7089 http://www.studio42.com Anti Spam Advocate: http://www.studio42.org |

Hey Chris,
Thanks for the reply. I take your point, but the Auto-Mate actually was sold with factory preprogramming for certain ADJ lights. About 9 years ago, my band invested in (4) Mighty Scans and an Operator controller. When the band broke up, I ended up with (2) of the Mightys and no controller. I started doing DJ work and wanted a simple controller for them, so I bought the Auto-Mate brand new, selecting the model designed for the Mighty. It wasn't just the one dealer...the Auto-Mate was available this way from most dealers. Anyway, it worked fine, but then I started adding more lights and quickly outgrew the simplicity of the Auto-Mate. I briefly tried reprogramming it, but gave up. Since then, it's been sitting on a shelf in my basement. Recently a friend started getting into DMX lights and wants to buy my Mightys and Auto-Mate, along with the other (2) from the old band that ended up with the drummer. If possible, I'd like to reset it to the factory Mighty settings. Any help, anyone? Larz Hanson Detour DJ & Audio |

Detour DJ,
There's no way to restore the original programs once they've been deleted or overwritten. All factory programs were created on a master unit and then transferred from one to another. Unfortunately these master units no longer exist and your only option is to create new programs from scratch. |

This just goes back to something I said a LONG time ago:
DOCUMENT your settings. Someone, somewhere, made those programs. Therefore, these are documented somewhere. But, the bigger questions are: Does that person have those documents still? Do they read this? Would they post or email it? Most users figure their "factory defaults" with a pre-programmed controller, they assume that "show" that the controller came with is part of the factory default. Sorry, it's not. -- Chris Pickett, Studio42 916-601-7089 http://www.studio42.com Anti Spam Advocate: http://www.studio42.org |
