Is there anyway I can order a complete screw kit for the DJ Scan 250? I've lost several screws when I tried to 'fix' (lol i was 15) the light. I have to replace the lamp socket and figured might as well get all the screws back into place. So! Is there anyway I can order a complete set of screws, including the knobs?

Okay, got it pulled apart... How do I get the board out where the socket is soldered into? It looks like it's just snaps, but I don't want to risk breaking a trace with a pair of need nose to get it to fit.

I would give service a call when the fixture is in front of you and they can walk you through it. Also, you can ask them about the screws, they should be able to help or point in the right direction.

Hello Exodus. ADJ does not offer the screws aince you can locate them at any hardware store. The knobs can be purchased over the phone by Calling Parts Dept at 800-322-6337. To get the board out of the unit will require needle nose pliers. With the needle nose pliers you need to squeeze the tip of the PCB clip to allow the board to come up on all four sides. You can break them off and also order more through us if need be.

SB, thanks. The knurled knobs are the same through out all the fixtures, correct? I need 3 for this scanner, and 2 for a Cosmic and one for an Electra II. These are the same ones (at the bottom) - http://parts.americandj.com/Pr...DJ%20SCAN%20250%20EX ?

No need to edit out pricing. If anyone checks, these are the listed prices on the ADJ Parts site.
It's plain to see that many repairs on many ADJ fixtures can be quite cost effective if you're willing to do some repairs yourself. Also, when in doubt and before ordering parts, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do call ADJ Service first. They want to help, and if means telling you what parts to order before handing you off to sales, please write down part numbers and then get ready to place your order. My only words of advise: Sometimes the service guys don't respond here fast enough, so call for best results. I think this is because those guys are hard at work helping people on the phone or fixing all sorts of things. Me? Unless I know for sure, I'm calling. I had a ADJ Double Twist's motor fail on me. Who edited out prices? I didn't think I did?  But yeah, I found the actual DJ Scan 250 parts page, and ordered all my parts from there, same with the thumb screws. |

There has been a recent rash of prices posted for various items that are below MAP(minimum advertised price), and since you did list prices, I was merely making a statement to help people understand why your post didn't need any editing or price removals.
I had no intention of removing the prices, which of course are clearly displayed. And again, no need to remove them because anyone can find the same parts for the same price via the exact place you mention. Alrighty, that makes sense. But yeah, I got those prices straight from ADJ site I'm going to actually have my uncle do the actual repair, since it requires soldering and I don't feel like soldering on a pricey board, Especially since I'm not going to pull it out. I realized, if you remove the gobo and color housings, that there's enough room to get a soldering iron into it through the front of the fixture, and the pads are quite large. |

If something requires soldering and you're not comfortable with that, it is best to hand the repair off to someone else. As you've indicated, it doesn't take much to wreck a board.
You can tell when a real engineer designs something. Repairs and common failure issues are beefed up and have a bit more "room to work" so you can repair the parts. Right now I have a 3Com OfficeConnect Dual-Speed Switch 16 going in and out of failure. I can see the capacitor starting to dry up and bulge a bit. It's just a matter of time before total failure. I'm going to obtain a replacement cap this week and try repairing the switch myself. I have no issues with soldering actually! I guess it sounds that way, but I don't have the proper equipment and clamps to do it the right way. He does!
I actually used to solder mod chips onto xbox mother boards all the time lol. |
