What would you guys reccomend for intelligent scanners? Rotating gobo or non? I will use them for a few small shows our choir puts on as well as djing. Would it be adventageous for me to get a scanner capable of rotating gobos? Also, please reccomend some.

rotating gobos are nice, but really aren't necessary for alot of applications....

THey can make the light much more expensive, and if you really aren't going to be using the lights to often, forget it

The best value right now are the Scan-Trons.

I would rate ADJ scanners in the following value order right now.

Scan/Roller Trons
Concept 2's
Concept 1's
DJ Scan 250's
DJ Scan r/g
DJ Scans - These can be considered a higher value though since they have been replaced, and can be found for arounf $120/pc. The problem with them is the weaker bulb and gobo/color wheel are the same wheel.

Rotating gobos come in handy for cool backdrop effects aimed at a wall or screen. When DJing you will find the rotating gobos great for slow songs scanning slowly on the floor. Check out the Elation Active Scans. Rotating gobos, color scrolling, shutter/dimmer and a 250 watt arc lamp for less than $800.

If you decide not to get a fixture with rotating gobos, try to find one what has a gobo scroll feature. The effect is similar to rotating gobos. I do a lot of Rave lighting with my Mighty Scans. The scrolling feature looks amazing in fog giving a morphing beam effect. When doing concerts and live PA events, I can point the scanners at the back drop and create a really cool mood effect.

If you have the extra cash, go with the rotating gobos. Good luck with your search.
